Digging around in my stuff I found this photo of what transpired when my friend had total power failure after take off in a B-24. He put it down in an empty lot in Clovis, N.M. Sorry but I will have to back and try to fix this. It is okay in my photo library.

Luck there was nothing around to hit.

About four years ago some friends (Pilot, Copilot, Nav... I don't know the eng or loadmasters) took off in a C-130 from Baghdad and lost power in 3 of 4 engines and had to put it down in a field. They were very lucky to have found a clear spot and everyone got out ok. The navigator is a guy I have known since we were commissioned together was the first to egress along with a general who was on the flight deck and found themselves alone outside the plane with a group of Iraqis approaching with nothing more than some 9mm pistols. They turned out to be friendly but it was a bit nervous at first.

Thanks for rotating that picture for me. I get so angry with myself when I am such a cripple with this stuff. I couldn't figure out to rotate that image after it was posted. My friend , Lew, was thrown out of the nose with a concussion but like a good aircraft commander he lined everyone up and counted heads and kept coming up one head short until one of his crew reminded him that he was the 10th man. This was the first of five airplanes that he went through in his 15th Air Force service career bombing oil and transportation targets in southern Europe.

All 4 engines failed? I assume that was fuel related-- either none, or contaminated?
