In response to some previous posts, I did a very quick 'down-and-dirty' count of all cars (including Dinos) produced by Ferrari to date.

I come up with about 130,000.

Since Ferrari has been in business for about 65 years, that means about 2,000 cars per year on average.

However, in the early days the numbers produced in a year were less than 100. Now they are over 4,000.

For example, the last Daytonas built in the early 1970s (25 years of prodcution) were about the 10,000th Ferraris ever made. So, 400 cpy on average for the first 25 years. Just think about how many models were before the Daytonas (all those 250 variants, the 330s, and the 275s, not to mention the really rare stuff like 166s, 212s, etc. etc.) and therefore how rare those models must be. All of those cars together represent about 10,000 production. In the modern world, Ferrari built almost 20,000 360s (of all variants).

This may give some of you younger guys a feel for how rare the early cars really are, and why they command such a $ premium. No supply.

Porsche made more 911s in one year than Ferrari made 308s in its entire decade long production run.

I don't know how that compares to modern Porsche & Ferrari production numbers. Is it still ~ 10:1 ?

I think your number is a bit on the low side. Here's an equation to get a quick estimate: 37,500+current VIN# minus 75,000 plus Dino production. Ferrari only used odd numbers until 75K. I think current production is around #180K which would make the number around 142,500 plus Dinos which IIRC is around 10K.

Total Dino production was more like 4,000 I beleive.

This is not counting the Fiat Dinos.

So, your number is something like 145,000.

I admit I likely did not factor in enough cars for the past couple of years, so that explains the difference of 130 to 145.

It makes no difference to this discussion, but the race cars did have even numbers. So few that it doesn't matter.

Dinos (which included GT4s) used even numbers and a quick check shows they were up to 14K plus in 1978, so I'm speculating there were around 7500-8000. I'm sure someone here has the precise number. In any event, we are only arguing over specifics, not method which still holds.

I did not include the GT4s in my Dino count.
