Anyone here have any experience with a 308 on one of those two-wheeled tow dollies? Is it an OK thing to do? What problems will I run into. It would be a freeway trip, about 400 miles. Thanks

The angle of incline, plus the risk of uneven pavement make using a UHaul dolly downright dangerous for a 308...... I'd drive it or have a flatbed ship the car.

Towing it on the back wheels????????

I don't think so. I do NOTHING but roll backs for mine! And I call 'em halfway across Texas to come get it!

Even on the fronts would be iffy, IMO. You know what a 308 steering lock assembly R&R costs? About $4K!!!

All of a sudden that roll back sounds good, eh?

Thanks for the response. Plesae excuse my ignorance: what is a "roll back"

I wouldn't even ask about towing on the back wheels, that's a no-no!

A flat bed tow truck, where the platform "rolls back", then tilts downward to meet the ground. Trademark name is "Landoll" IIRC.

Even with this type wrecker, boards or ramps may be required to avoid damage to the low front spoiler and also watch the exhaust tips and shroud at the rear. A good driver will watch all that, as it goes up on the cable winch.

I have one service I use all the time here, which has about four drivers.
    They ALL know me!! Sadly.

I wouldn't do it at all, if you are renting a tow dolly you can just as easily rent a trailer. put all four wheels up and you will have nothing to worry about. With a dolly if you tow from the front you have to worry about the gearbox, clutch, etc. if you tow from the back you have to worry about dips in hte road tearing up the body work on the front end. USE a trailer, trust me you will not regret it.
