Hello Ferrari Chat, For reasons I won;t go into, I'd like to drive a Ferrari 488 Spider to Mammoth Ski Resort, CA. I think it's best if I tow the vehicle when the driving gets tough, has anyone got any experience of towing a 488 Spider? Did you use a tow bar, or a trailer? Was the trailer open or closed? Any mounting points, weaknesses I should be aware of?
DO NOT TOW WITH THE FACTORY TOW HOOK IN THE FRONT. It messes up the mesh in the front and is a terrible design. Its complete junk. Have an experienced tow driver use straps on the front two wheels if it must be towed. I would drive it onto an enclosed trailer. That's the only way I would do it. Or an open trailer/flatbed as a last resort.
is this a serious question? Mammoth (the community) is beautiful, and it's a great drive up there. So, I'm assuming you want to use the car up there in town...NOT on the slopes....? One of my partners would drive his 599 up to his home there in the spring, and back in the fall. On occasion, he had to have his dealer arrange a pickup after the snow came early. Do not "tow" a Ferrari. Hire an enclosed transporter company, there are PLENTY in SoCal you can hire. If you want to do it yourself, rent a 20' enclosed trailer. Worst case, rent a Uhaul open trailer and one of their trucks - but you'll probably find the rental expense more than hiring a pro. Just drive the car....it's a fun ride. Parts of it are boring, but great views If you do not know how to anchor a car for transport, don't ask online. Find someone who knows what they are doing and have them show you.
Get an enclosed trailer. I use a 24ft. Drive it into the trailer. It is very simple with another person watching you closely. I use race ramps to get into the trailer (bought them on amazon). Use through the wheel tie downs that have an abrasion protection strap. Check the straps after driving the first 10 or so miles to tighten them up.
That's hugely funny. I'm trying to picture it now. Love the bit about for reasons I wont go into - beautiful! I can imagine heaps of people here have done it.
