I bought a 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser slightly used about 7 years ago. Looking to sell or trade now and looked up my old papers. In 7 years the value dropped roughly 30K, so lets say 4K per year. No maintenance issues at all however.

From what I read, etc., this isn't too far off what I might expect on owning a 355 for a similar time period? (Assuming of course I don't buy complete junk to start with- average car if there is such a thing)

So if I budgeted 30K for F355 ownership that is sort of fair isn't it? Thus a 355 is on par with the bullet proof Toyota is it not? Don't hear that everyday....

    Fire away gents...

You should end up with no depreciation. Likely some appreciation if you buy the best car you can find and keep it in superb condition.

Average car in average condition, too many variables to say where the value will go.

There is some truth to this. I own a 355, and yes I will lose money when I sell it but not as much as I did when I bought new Porsches. A new 911 is an awesome car but it doesn't come close to even a 15 year old Ferrari.

Edit: In my 355 ownership experience, if you budget $30k for a car that's not a basket case you'll be fine for many years unless you are very unlucky. You might spend more than that in 7 years but it will be worth it. Don't try to make it cost the same as a land cruiser, its worth spending more.

I always think the $5k a year rule works for reasonably modern exotics, those 8-20 years old. If you went back to say a Boxer (30 years old), I'd say you had to budget more.

I have quite a few toy cars / bikes. My 355 has been by far the least expensive to maintain.
