Hmm, popped up twice this week so I was ready to jump on my bashing bandwagon of Ferrari computers, but I sat down in the Bimmer this morning ( parked right next to the Cali ) and the TPMS reset lights comes on???!!!!!
I assume there is some sort of electrical interference in my building or something. Anyone know how these sensors work?

There are different signals for different issues. Are you getting:
    1. A signal for low pressure in a specific tire?
    2. A "Calibration needed" signal?
    3. A "Service needed" signal?

In your owners manual there is a page that lists all the various signals and situations.

It is possible that there is an interfering RF signal such as from a security system. It would have to be a broad band and strong interfering source because different sensors broadcast at different frequencies. If you have radar detector, it would be interesting to see if it picks up a broadband signal in your building (X, K or Ka band).

The sensor sends an RF signal to the ECU which has been previously synched to it. If you don't actually need to recalibrate; that is, when you drive off, the system functions normally, it would seem to be just one of those pesky annoyances of the digital age.

few days ago my 2012 california also asking for TPMS calibration

when i do it, it says failure

and the warning light stays on dash and no info is displayed on tire pressure/temp

    Fixed it

Car has to be off, and key on then menu recalibrate

Then drive off for few minutes will still say failure.

Upon next startup it was fine

Good for you. Same thing happened in my F430 (5 years old). Had to replace the sensors. Cost: One large.

TPMS frequency is very low (315 MHz or 433 MHz, depending on model and country), but I have had police radars set off the low tire warning on other cars, likely because signal strength was so strong harmonics got into the receivers. X band is around 9 GHz, so more than an order of magnitude higher in frequency than TPMS, and K and Ka bands are even higher frequency. It is also possible for other cars' TPMS to cause interference.

Sorry, electronic warfare officer in the USAF.

Or it could be that your tire pressure(s) needed some "attention" ?

Ambient temp can cause the tire PSI to drop , which would in turn effect both of your cars..

Maybe I'm reading your post incorrectly, but I'd confirm your pressures are correct, then reset ( relearn ) the TPMS..

    ramble off..

Well in the end you are right. Some F$CK shoved nails into my Ferrari and Bimmer on the same night. Was not visible but he knew what he was doing as it went into the sidewall and the tires were toast. It is so comforting to live in a high end condo with 24/7 security :)
