Hi All - Quick question - Took the 458 Spider out for a drive today - flawless as usual :) Stopped after about a 40 minute drive to run into the bank and when I came back out and started her up I got a "Check Tire Pressure" warning on the left TFT - front left tire was highlighted but the pressure and temp were fine and pretty much the same as the others. Warning went away.

Physically checked all tires and pressures we are fine - 34-35 psi in all four corners. Moved the left TFT display to the Tire page and all were fine - no warnings or highlighted tires. Drove the car with the Tire page up and all adjusted with pressure and temps as expected so know the sensors are working.

Stopped again and when restarting the same thing. Shut the car off with the Tire TFT display on and when I restarted it It appears the left front initially shows an error even though pressure is fine and then clears - Almost like the left front has a delay sending the signal to/through the ECU.

Checked the manual and it appears there is a way to recalibrate the TMPS via the Main menu - says this needs to be done for tire replacement or significant pressure adjustments. Should I perform the recalibration or just have the dealer check it out when she is in for her annual in a few weeks?

Any experiences/tips/guidance/advice is appreciated as always - Cheers :)

Set the tire pressure after the vehicle has been at rest for several hours and out of direct sunlight. On the next startup, calibrate the tire pressure in the vehicle following the prompts in the left TFT display. Hopefully, that will do the trick.

Excellent - Sounds good - Thanks much :) Any idea/thoughts on why this suddenly happened? Has not since acquisition of the car in 2019 - Is it possible/probable that the Dealer does this when she is in for service and since I have had her in for my usual annual/bi-annual routine and her bi-annual was last October that perhaps it is just a time thing since it was done exactly a year ago tomorrow?

LMK and thanks again for the quick and informative response - Cheers :)

Based on my past experiences, the batteries in the TPMS last about eight years. I just had the tires and sensors replaced in my 2014 458 Spider. When it's in for service your dealer should be able to tell you how much life is left in your TPMS sensors. You can start getting errors when the batteries start dying. Just a possibility.

Great point/idea - and yep mine is a 2014 so makes even more sense. I will do the calibration thing in the morning as I will have her out most of the week (just incredible weather right now in Colo!) but will definitely have them check the sensors and replace if necessary - Thanks for the response and input - Cheers :)

$1400ish for the new sensors (it was bundled with new tires and alignment). I'm certain that you could DIY for significantly less, but I lack DIY skills. Again, this is just one possibility, hopefully a re-calibration makes your errors go away.

Thanks again - Yeah if the recalibration works or staves off the need it would be preferable to do it when she needs tires - Probably next spring - I can put up with the warnings since they go away after 20 seconds as long as they are properly measuring the PSI - but if not then I will need to replace them ahead of the tires. Thanks again for the info - $1400-ish in the Ferrari world is not bad :)

Yup, agree. Just gab mine in for annual and replaced them all after dealer explained how ready mine were to start throwing messages.

Had this happen on my Roma last month same symptom. After a few annoying starts before I drove off I started a tpms calibration cycle. Afterward issue all gone! Hasn’t happened since!

For some reason the sensor doesn’t come on-line quickly enough so the software sees an error. It does clear when you start to drive it but the re-cal establishes a good link…until the next time…

Awesome!! Great to hear and exactly the same symptoms/behavior - Like I said I find it at least somewhat coincidental that this has never happened and yet happened one year to the day from the last service - perhaps a coincidence but I am betting a re-cal lasts a year and since a year did not go by between her first annual under my ownership and her bi-annual that may have something to do with it.

Will see - Thanks VERY MUCH for taking time to respond guys - I sincerely appreciate it - Cheers :)

I hate seeing my fellow Ferrari owners getting ripped off just because they have a Ferrari.

The 458 uses TPMS sensors made by a German company named Huf. These are the SAME SENSORS used on pretty much all Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Bugatti, and even Pagani. There is no difference. All made by Huf. These are $40 sensors. Almost all European car companies use Huf across the board.

Here is a link to buy the same TPMS sensors for the 458 for only $164 for a full set… that is about $40 bucks a sensor. $1400 is just beyond crazy, it’s unimaginable and ridiculous.

Thanks very much!! The recalibration worked flawlessly but eventually I will need to replace the sensors and trust this is now bookmarked - Thanks again :)

Did the recalibration this morning - worked like a charm - as expected initially after the recalibration was activated I got the "TPMS Temporarily Inactive" TFT message and Tire Warning light - drove it about 30 yards to complete the relearn and it went out - stopped and re-started the car and all is well.

Thanks again for the response - Cheers :)
