TR A/C Thermal Switch

    I am looking for a A/C thermal switch (attached to the A/C line by the condensor) part # 61047900. In the parts book they call it a bimetal contact. New they want $400- $500 :eek: The same switch on any other car would be $15- $35. Has anyone ever found one of these outside Ferrari sources. I guess my next step would be to try to find some numbers on it. Any thoughts on eliminating this switch. Elimination would have the condensor fan run any time the A/C is on (just like cars in the 70's & early 80's.)Knowing the problems with the fuse panels on these cars, am I risking the integrity of the board with this fan running to much or burning out the condensor fan motor prematurly. Any thoughts, Thanks

    I doubt that having it run anytime the AC is "on" would give you much more trouble than usual (it's a rare condition when that switch wouldn't be closed -- like if you are doing a lot of windshield defrosting on wet/cold days). Here's one example where someone had done that by placing the permanent F "30-to-87 jumper" in the relay B position (which would be the best way to do it IMO rather than jumping the thermoswitch wires together):

    But shop around a little -- www.ferrparts.com shows that part for ~$200, and, even though it doesn't come up in their website, I'd ask www.allferrariparts.com for a price too.

    Let us know if you find a substitute.

    Thanks for the input. This particular switch is inbetween the connector "C" VB (green striped white wire) output to the condensor fan motor and the fan motor itself. The relay supplies continiuos power whenever the A/C is running to the switch and then the switch turns on the condensor fan motor. Ill let you know if I can find an alternate source. Thanks for the advise. :)

    Lots of cars use those and other Ferrari's have as well. I would try and find an auto A/C shop and see what they have. Temp specs may differ slightly but that shouldn't matter.

    Thanks for the suggestion Rifledriver. I was afraid I may have to resort to that. I guess Im spoiled here working on more "mainstream" Euro and domestics here. (Dont have to get to creative, just order what you need). I saw a spring type clip securing the switch to the line. Does anyone know if there is a scrader valve under the switch or do I need to reclaim the system before switch removal ?

    My bad -- I should've looked it up rather than using a faulty memory ;)

    Actually, do leave the relay B in place -- it prevents the condensor fan from running if the high/low pressure switches are out of bounds.

    No, it's just in mechanical contact with the OD of the line -- I'm pretty sure my memory is better on this one ;)
