I am working on a 91 TR and have replaced the dual plate clutch (complete) including TO bearing and Pilot Bearing. I have also changed gearbox oil and bled Clutch Slave and master as well as trued the flywheel. I have also done a search on FC and found some threads that give some info on my problem but maybe some have more info.

When the car is in the air the car shifts without problem but with wheels on the ground there is great effort required to shift fron one gear to another and yet the clutch operates normally and does not catch until the pedal is lifted the required amount.

So the question is why is it so tough to select gears when the car is on the ground and not so when the car is in the air? and does anyone have a solution to this problem?

    Thanks,

    Paul

Are the clutch plates separating completely when the clutch is depressed? Try to bleed the clutch slave cylinder again, as well as the brakes and master cylinder. See if that helps.

By "in the air" do you mean with the suspension at full-droop and the wheels unloaded and free to rotate?

If you apply the emergency brake when in the air (i.e., don't allow the rear wheels to rotate) does it have any effect on the gear selection behavior?

I'd also be suspicious of something in the chassis flexing/shifting/moving when you load the wheels -- sub-frame joints all tight, motor mounts OK, etc?

Just some random thoughts -- I'm sure you'll find a solution once you know the problem ;)
