Hi - Just taken my TR out probably for the last time this year and noticed when on the run, the temperature gauge stays on 60, the first mark. Pulled into the side, let her idle until correct temperature reached, waited for fans to kick in but then as soon as I start driving again, it drops right down and then seems to run horrible on the throttle over-run

Outside temperature was 8 celcius this morning. Anyone else have this issue and any tips to resolve?

I left her ticking over in the garage on my return with correct temperatures being reached and maintained with the fans so guessing thermostat is ok?

Consider pulling and testing the thermostat.

One or both of the thermos is stuck open. Sitting still fans would kick on at temp because no air moving across radiators, when your driving, air constantly flowing across the radiators (with thermos stuck open) wont let it maintain temp.

I see it now. The exploded parts diagram only shows the one stat but I see the two housings adjacent each other. I think I'll just get two new ones whilst Im back there.

Should be fun getting back there! :(

Significantly easier if you pull the forward grill (#40 here, remove four 10mm nuts) & trim panel (#36 here, remove four 10mm bolts)

Lay a piece of plywood on top of the engine, lay on your stomach and remove them that way after trim removal #40/#36.

    £50 each OEM from Superformance.

I only just completed (and just go over the bruises) from doing my alternator so I know what a PITA it is to work back there. The board is a good idea though.

I've found instead of a board, lay down two large bath towels on top of the engine covering to the back of the air intake and rear grill. This way, you can get on and off without the risk of scratching anything. Also, the towels are much more cushy to lay down on....and I'm a thin guy lol

Shop towels under plywood works for me. I also have the low temps when driving in the cold btw. Have not checked the thermos.

Superformance do aftermarket ones with the gasket for £19.95 each so I'll give them a go.
