Hello all, I've been lurking for quite a while and am finally thinking of getting rid of my Porsche for an f-car (wife is on-board so long as she's in a Benz before I do anything).

Like many people, I'm debating among the $35K-$70K cars (Mondial, 348, TR), and have always wondered about the dimensions listed for the cars. According to my research, a TR is 4485mm x 1976 x 1130 - l/w/h), which is roughly 176.5" x 77.8" x 44.5".

My question is: does the width include the mirrors?

If a specific model is necessary to answer the question, let's use a more commeon 2-mirror model (87-89) for example.

Stupid question, I know, but I have a smaller-than-usual single car garage (in addition to the double car garage that we use for our daily drivers) that I squeeze the Porsche into (length is of concern for that car), and want to be sure that I can park which ever car I decide to pursue in it!

Many thanks for hours of education that I've gained from the posts. Am looking forward to "the hunt".

The width does not include the mirrors and per EU DIN specs., never does. They measure these dimensions by placing panels against the extremities of the cars after folding the mirrors, excluding any mud flaps or other options, checking the panels are at right angles to the ground plane - and then measuring the distance between the top of the panels.

At least this how I saw it done on the initial production RS200s at Dagenaham in the 80s. Probably use lasers today or read the numbers of the CADCAM files.

Wow, thanks for the info. Can anyone measure how far the mirrors extend from the body of the car for me? I'd really appreciate it. Of course, if I ever find one for sale locally, I'll check the dimensions myself, but if someone could measure theirs, it could help me avoid wasting time lusting after the TR (although it's been my holy grail since I first saw one!).

    Many thanks!

FWIW...I just went out and measured mine (Euro model TR)....

Outside edges of mirror to mirror was 76 inches overall. Actually, about as wide as the rear of the car.

Thanks for measuring. Can't wait to take my first test drive in a TR. Already tried the 348, and loved it, but felt that something was lacking. I'm hoping the big 12 will satisfy me!

Mine is just a tad shy of 6 feet wide at the rear which is the widest part of the car. Keep in mind how long the doors of the TR are. You really have to open them wide to be able to get in and out of the car without tearing the seat bolsters or denting the rear fenders. I park mine up against the wall on in the garage on the passenger side and it leaves a little more room to get in on the driver's side. I pull out of the garage before I let a passenger in. The TR has a wide door sil and the window is pointed at the top so it can be a bit hard to get into if the door isn't fully opened. Don't forget to not use the rear fender ledge to hold your body up with as this will dent very easily.

Nothing comes close to the Testarossa. You will love it. And it takes up much less space than a SUV.

Don't let the size intimidate you.
I have had mine for abour 5000kms and have had no problems with the width
Mirrors do fold in, the rear fenders do not.
For all intent and purposes the fender and mirroros are about the same width.

I also do the "park close to the passenger side so I can get out' trick.

Worse case scenario, do the Duke of Hazzard through the window deal

    Yee Hah!!!

    Have fun in your TR
