Hoping someone can help me find the door lock posts for a 88TR. So far all I can find is the posts with the rod attached as an assembly for a crazy price. Since I already put on the sound barrier and assembled the door, I don't want to replace the rod assembly but would rather press or bond one back on. I was hoping there was a source for the posts (black) that will work that someone has already figured out. They do not screw on & off...that is why I broke one :-(

    Thanks.

    Hi Mel,

I thought about turning one on the lathe and was thinking about making a few out of polished stainless. Even though I own the company, the head tool maker kicked me out last time for not leaving the machine the way I found it and making a mess. I thought I did a good job of cleaning up..hmm.... I may have to sneak in at night. They tell me there is nothing worse than an Engineer that thinks he is a tool maker.

I decided to keep original and was hoping there was a source. I think Kenco identified a low enough price at Eurospares and I could remove the metal pin. I also looked at some after market posts that I could bond on, but they all seem to have too big of a threadded ID.

    Thanks

You can just use PC7 or JB Weld and that would fill up the void and hold well, positioning would be the key until it sets.

Others have said the knob screws on the shaft but on my '88 I could not get them loose and feared I would split them or twist the rod. In the end I left them in place and pulled the door panel/card over the knob.

$22.67 from ES is a good price for the knob and rod, though it says "to order" vs. "in stock" so there's a chance they are NLA.

If you can find PC7 in your area I would use that, its thicker than JB and it wont tend to run down the shaft.

Yep, my 88TR post did not screw on so it broke on me trying to remove it. No threads but rod has swaged shaft that was either molded over or press fit over. As is always the case, wish I knew then what I know now I would have reached up and disconnected the green clip on the wire shaft.

A way to prevent the PC7 from running down the shaft is to use masking tape to build up the diameter of the rod/ shaft directly below the knob's final set position....Mark

I thought this thread was about the posts on the starker plate.

If your black plastic sleeve is broken/missing, I used a piece of thick heat shrink tubing. Works as factory and cost pennies.
