When I bought my car, it came with a Norwood clear bonnet, which I like. At night though, the engine compartment lights were on, illuminating the engine as I drove. While this might be nice for Saturday night cruizin', It is a little too much 'look at me' (is that possible in a TR?), and a little distracting as you could see it in the mirror. When I went to fix it, I found that the decklid switch was still in the circuit, but not being activated enough to turn off the lights when the lid was down. I couldn't believe that the geometry would allow the plunger to remain almost fully extended, but it did. Is there supposed to be some kind of foot on the end of the plunger? I ended up gluing a little felt pad to the end, which is enough to turn the lights off.

This brings up an interesting question. How many TRs with regular bonnets have their engine compartment lights on all the time at night?

BTW- did you know that the 12v for this circuit runs through the right gas strut, and it is hot all the time the parking lights are on? Could be a shocking, or at least fuse-blowing experience if you are working on that side at night with something conducting.

First picture - Switch in place with felt fix.

Second picture - Switch removed from deck lid. note steel spring on back (lower in pic) side to hold in place. Notch in front engages lid sheet metal.

Third picture - 12v gas strut.

I thought if it wasn't making good contact to close (open) the contact, your engine cover warning light would be on. Is your warning light functioning correctly?

There must be another switch for that, because the engine cover light functions properly (on when unlatched, off when closed and tight). The light circuit seems to be separate.
