Hello Gang. Like many of you out there, my car's engine cover insulation was deteriorating. I found some stuff on ebay that seemed to be what I wanted. It is cellular construction with foil on both sides, and about 4mm thick. So I bought a roll of 50 square feet for a measily $35. After ripping off the old insulation, I scraped and sanded the underside of the engine cover, then washed it and let it dry in the sun. Then I laid the new insulation onto the engine cover and carefully cut out spots for the mounting brackets. I then sprayed adhesive on both the engine cover and the insulation and squished them together. The insulation was formable to the corners and seemed to lay-out quite good. Well I won't make this a complicated story since this is an easy job. But here's a couple of pics.

    Looks the goods Jeff.

Do you have the eBay link, or and more details of the actual product. Might be a bit difficult to source in Oz without a bit more detail. Mine are both looking really shabby.

That's funny. I did the same job yesterday! I got a roll of heat/insulation from a local car stereo shop. Paid $35 bucks also. Cosmic coincidence.

jlonmark: Wow that's cheap. I wish we had a Pep Boys here in my rednecky-hick town. My choices are very limited, so I have to do a lot of shopping on line. So if anyone out there is needing this stuff and have a Pep Boys in your area - go check it out! Thank You for posting that Jlonmark.

Any special adhesive? Did you physically remove the cover?

Yes I removed the engine cover to do the job. It was sort of a pain the butt to re-install the 3rd brake light and get it aligned properly. Other than that this is an easy job.

Just to update....I see several other sources have been mentioned for this insulation, but here is the problem. The TR engine cover is quite large and you need a roll that is wide enough to accomodate it. You certainly don't want to use a 16" wide roll of the stuff and have to splice it to get the proper width. So when I found the ebay stuff in the size that is needed, I jumped on it.

As for the adhesive, I used some 3M spray glue from our local Napa store.

bpu699 - Thank You for this clarification. I did check on some other links and saw only the "narrow" stuff. Based on your information, and the fact that I have now driven my car several hundred miles with no issues - All you Testarossa owners who need new insulation run out to Home Depot or Menards and get yourself a roll of this stuff. It works very well.
