New to Ferrari Chat.... I have a White 88 Testarossa.... Looking for advice on finding a kit and a capable custom exhaust shop near Boston to build or install a pipe to replace my stock muffler. Question 1. I want it somewhat loud and aggressive but not window shattering. Will this be too much? Question 2. Will I need to have engine adjustments made for the reduced back pressure? Qustion 3. Has anybody out there done someting like this before. I want it a good bit louder than the Tubi , not quite a full challenge car loud. Thanks Fred
Welcome to the brd fred, congrats on the car !! FWIW: My 86tr I have a borla straight pipe, no cats and sounds throaty, and deep. Sounds better than the Capristo, and Tubi when I did the comparisons a long time ago. Apparently, you can do a custom one for alot less and the sound is also fantastic from what Ive heard. Im sure soem of the guys will chime in and steer you in the right area. Good luck !
KTR has a custom fabrication shop and has been doing Ferrari service for 20 years. They are located in Ayer, MA, not far from Boston and have the capacity to install any system you'd like or make you a custom exhaust. They also have a rolling road dyno and can document the changes from a performance standpoint.
If I go straight pipes like you I will have to put everything back on for Ma. emissions inspections every two years. If I just do the muffler I think I may pass emissions testing as is. Anyone know?
Hi Fred Welcome aboard. If you haven't already, use the search and you'll find there's a couple of recent threads on Tr pipes and exhausts in general. Here's some shots of mine. They're 20 years old though. No problem passing inspection as I did today in fact. Sound is what you are asking for in your question1 and is not challenge car like loud. It does, however, render the stereo useless as I'd rather listen to the flat-12 Kenny Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's perfect. I'll take the pictures along to KTR where David suggested I go. I'll post some sound bites after it's all done!
Fred, Looks like you are all hooked up. KTR is a great place with great guys. Ask to see my 308 when you are there and take a pic too PLEASE as i miss her Every years in the fall i leave her there as we do more mods for the next year's racing season.
Fred, I can vouch for Kenny's TR. It has a sound reminiscent of a 312 PB. I can confidently say that it is the best sounding TR I have EVER heard. My cousin will back me up on that too as Kenny gave him an incredible ride.
Custom made. Go down about 6 or 7 posts in this thread for the story. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76771 I think the jig created used to fabricate my pipes may still be in existence. I'll inquire about it this weekend. Seems to be a developing market for a more economical Tubi alternative for Tr's.
Fred, Welcome! I met you at the NHIS, SCDA event last year. I had a gray MB E55. Welcome aboard. David
yes I remember , you were the gentleman with the brakes overheat ( I mean the windshield washer fluid) light on... nice to hear from you again. Still amazing how fast that car of yours is. Have you been back to the track?
