TR Front Hood Foam Adhesive Removal

I've decided to finally replace the vinyl panels under the front hood. When taken off I have a lot of adhesive that needs to be removed from the underside of the hood. I wanted to inquire if anyone that has replaced their panels has a process that worked for them and what would be the best product to use to remove the adhesive. When asking about process what worked without any damage to the hood. Also, did you removed the hood off the car or kept it on ?
