The left fuel tank on my '88 TR is leaking around the inboard strap. Is the tank aluminum or steel? Can't tell from the manual. Anyone taken one of these out?

    Ferraristi,

Before you start removing things, remove the lower panels covering the fuel tanks. There you will see a balance hose going between the tanks and 2 rubber hoses going to two fuel pumps. If fuel is leaking from there, it will run down and travel along the strap.

    Check the hoses first.

Also, there are some breather fuel hoses on the rear of the tanks just in front of the engine. Check and see if those are alright. Those are usually the culprits as they don't usually get changed with an engine out service.

Shamile is absolutely right. I was quoted $1200 to remove the tanks in an attempt to find the "leak". Turned out to be the breather hose from the fuel regulator.

until now I never had a leaking fuel tank, except when you had an accident.
so check the hoses all before doing a lot of work for nothing
