TR Getting Just Do?

It is only greed imo; people try to grab as much money for that car if possble ...pitty !

 

Well Mel as Gordon Gekko famously said "Greed is Good" and as mentioned before - It's all generational just look at the 57 Chevys and 64 Mustangs here in the US that were once "hot" amongst collectors...now it's 70-90s era aspirational cars that have been on the rise like Testarossa, SL560, etc.

As far as "getting its due"...The Testarossa family (Testarossa, 512TR, and 512M) of cars resonates with those who grew up in the 80s-90s and now can afford to have one and as sales start to kick-in the speculators have entered, which has been evident in the frenzy that has started and will most likely continue for awhile. This frenetic "fire" is stoked by all the right conditions of: desire, cheap available money, low rate of returns on cash, and a percieved appreciating asset (if its going up you're not afraid to pay top dollar). I never would have expected the cars to be percieved as valued at $100k+ just 2 years ago, but people are voting with their checking accounts.

But do YOU really believe that the greedy buyers from NOW will ever be TR lovers like we are ?

 

Absolutely NOT! True car lovers (like you) drive their cars and talk about ways enjoy and maintain their passion and then there are other owners hoping to have bought a lotto ticket or an express route to a few extra dollars.

 

the fun of driving a midd V12 engine is never payable.
so the real V12 lovers drive their cars, knowing that sometimes it will cost for maintenance but still have much fun driving. and when the value is going more and more they will not say it is not good. but if the prices will raise more and more some owners will think twice and more times to take out the car for driving or not. too much value and too hard to find parts if you have an accident. even with good insurance it is not so easy to solve then the problems you may get.

 

That`s all so true!

The value you could get from selling one increases month by month - but I know if I ever sold mine, that would be the end - I would probably never be able to buy another one again - and that would not be fun


As you say money can`t make up for the fun, the sound and feel of 12 cylinders behind your head - never mind the fact they`re nestled inside one of the most amazing car shapes ever!


Maybe some of the speculators will drive their cars a little and realise this - and become true long term Testarossa lovers too!

I would hope it is possible to love driving our cars and also hope to make some money...they don't have to be mutually exclusive. Anyway I am signed up to the former.

As to the Testarossa, I think it is a piece of art that was not recognised or valued in its time. Like a lot of art. Incidentally like some art of the 80s...think Roy Lichtensteins later works, or Richters of that era, or Keith Hareng.

I know a lot of crazy petrol heads who love driving and have made huge amounts on their collections. One of them let me drive his 250 Cal SWB Spider last summer. A long way. On public roads. Crazy...
