TR glovebox will not open...........

Do you mean that even if you insert a credit card at the top seam and give it a little helping "tug" at the right moment that it won't open?

 

Try giving it a little pull from the top. Mine sticks a little and this helps.

 

Around the opening the leather sticks to itself. If at the same time you hold down the sw, you whack it with the side of your fist it will open. Tools and finger nails often slip and scratch the leather.

Opening the glove box door on a TR is not unlike the AM oil pressure gauge thump required on Veglia oil pressure gauges to wake them up on the early cars.

 

There is also an emergency release cable buried under the right side of the dash, just above the speaker box for just such an occation. Dig around in that area and you will find it. Most times I have found the the latch on the glovebox door is out of wack and the solinoid can't pull the catch back far enough to realse the door. A good healthy tug on the release cable should open her up.

 

The leather sticks even when the back up cable is pulled.

 

Yup. My glove-box needs a little thump every once in a while. I adjusted the latch; but seems to be just the leather hanging up.
