I did an unsuccessful search on the topic so perhaps someone can point me in the right direction. Are the heads for the KE jetronic engines the same as later heads?

Your question seems a little backwards as there's nothing "later" than the KE-jetronic TR (i.e., early euro = K-Jetronic, late euro = KE-Jetronic, all US = KE-Jetronic), but per the SPCs the cylinder heads are all the same:

1-6 cyl head (the aluminum head piece only) = 123054
    1-6 cyl head complete assy = 123064

7-12 cyl head (the aluminum head piece only) = 123055
    7-12 cyl head complete assy = 123065

If you are asking if they are the same as TR512 heads for motors equipped with 2.7 Motronic, they are not.

Yes. This was my question , answered better than I asked it.. Now of course I would like to know whether they could be fitted . Would it be an upgrade: bigger valves, or smaller chamber volume ? Or is the bolt pattern different or the coolant passages different?
And I would like to take advantage of this posting to thank the experts like Rifledriver and Steve Magnussen and others that contribute so much. In fact it is a bit overwhelming for me because every time I think I could answer some query I think 'Yeah but rifledriver or steve or silvergts or many others probably know that better than me, so I better shut up". I can't even compete for the banter with contributors like Shamille, so what is the average guy to do?

It would beg the question "Why do you want to do it?". The source of the additional power in the 512 was not the cylinder heads.

By the time you were done with a comprehensive and quality conversion you could just sell the TR and buy a 512 and get better brakes and suspension in the bargain.

I would just like to have a comprehensive set of spares ready just in case . I would like to accumulate heads, pistons, diff carrier . The parts usually recognized as potentially needing replacement. Might as well get the best possible one. More power is not the immediate goal.

It is hard to render a head unrepairable. Pistons can be made better and cheaper than OE. Tr's have reached an age where they are harder to get parts for now than they will be in the future and were in the past. The one exception to that is some of the transaxle parts but I bet we will see those becoming easier and not harder to get in the future.

Invest in trim, emblems, and interior pieces. Mechanical and consumables are already starting to be reproduced and standard wear items were, and will never be a big issue.

I have one myself and am already breathing a sigh of relief seeing some of the stuff available again.

    Good advice!

Once TRs are 40 or 50 years old, these will be the super expensive rare items.
