Just after a ball park figure to factor into my budget. What would the annual insurance be (ball park) In perth, or Australia wide, for a TR on limited use

Im 35, Male, no tickets in the last 3 years. No claims. No major offences or tickets ever.

Just adding all ORC into an import calculator I've put together.

    Thanks guys.

insurance would be the last thing i would look at.....get it here first, get it complied, then registered.....then worry about insurance

I unserstand that, but I'm basically factoring in EVERYTHING in my calculations to have a real world view of every thing I consider.

There is no ball park figure. In Sydney it be 3x more then Perth. They look at your postcode 1st then fill in the blanks.

The best bet is giving Shannons/insert insurance company a call, they would give you the best ball park figure.

Good repeat business discounts from Shannons. I have 5 cars(1 in storage) with them, the last was just about free! My kids have their cars with them too, and some of the discount carried across.

I have about 7 cars insured and Shannon's were useless.

I've used Shannons for the last 2 years for Horse. The renewal was cheaper!

Previously Suncorp, Dawes and before that Suncorp - but it just kept going up every year and in the end Suncorp would not agree with my opinion that after 24 years, a car does not go down 10% every year!

I use NRMA for my work stuff, but I don't think they have any idea of classics, in my opinion.

I had to argue EVERY bloody year about increased premiums. Not only that, you had to go through 20 levels of management before you got the premium down to a reasonable level.
Never had the problem with Dawes. My only issue with them is agreed value on some of my cars.

Thanks guys. Guess I'll ring Shannons. I just know that they dont often like given quotes unless you actually own the car first, so thought the community would be a good place to check.

    No worries.

It's a bit like "how long is a piece of string"; but if I had one and insured it for about $140k I would expect it to cost max $1000 with about a $2500 excess.

Interesting. My 348 is insured for $115K through Shannons for approx $1300 per year with a $500 excess. I am nearly 30 yrs old on a Rating 1 for life. :D:D

Testatrossas are "worth" more than my lowly 348 so I would assume they would cost more to insure? :):)

    Or am I dreaming? :D:D

Maybe a 'valued' customer with 7 cars would get a cheaper premium than me perhaps?? :D:D

My $340k daily driver Maserati Granturismo S is only $2400 or so. Sounds like a lot for a 328.

I believe Suncorp owns Shannons, and Just Cars Insurance, among many others.

AAMI was part of Promina which merged with Suncorp-Metway afew years back so AAMI is now owned by Suncorp.

Since the merger Shannons is now underwritten by AAI which is also owned by Suncorp.
Just Cars is still underwritten by AAMI.

I'd hate to be the guy working all that out

    Close.

Thought I'd fill in the outcome for future searches.

I called Shannon's and was told the following.

Firstly, as it's an import I can't insure it for the "Aussie Market Value" but for my "financial commitment in the car" only.

So this covers the buy price in the UK + Freight + Import Tax + Compliance (so LANDED price).

It can NOT include ORC's (rego + stamp duty)

So basing the quote on a 30,000 GBP purchase, that brings the insurance value to around $85,000

So to insure, under limited usage, Perth, $85,000 for me was $1000 excess and $1273 per annum.

Very happy with the result as I was guessing about $5K simply going on the fact that my 300ZX insured for $15K is costing $740 per annum.

Of course this will vary person to person etc etc, but hopefully useful info for anyone else doing their sums.
