Yeah I've also been watching (and drooling) over that car. It also has an aftermarket exhaust - probably Tubi. Very nice "like new" car, with all the stuff like owner's pouch, tool kit, jack kit, etc. If I was in a financial position to buy I would definately be bidding on that car. I agree with Vasco that $70k is a fair price, perhaps a few dollars more.....?

    Greetings:

The car looks pretty well sorted out. Here are the 2 things I noticed.

    1) Driver seat (side bolster) appears to have been dyed. Why? With such low miles, seat should not have wear.

    2) Engine is REALLY dirty. Yes, it can be cleaned, but not indicitive of such low miles.

I would say right around 70K. Clean the engine and present it better and I bet it could go for more tot he right buyer.

    Just my .02 cents.

    TT

You are right the engine is dirty which is surprising for a 2k car. Either way I would definetly do a PPI, carfax etc just to be safe. You just never know.

Also, excuse my ignorance but what does it mean by "high HP model"? They offered a different setup?

    Great looking car once again!

If anyone is serious about potentially buying this TR, I would be willing to take a closer look. Probably the closest qualified ppi is Lake Forest Sportcars in Lake Bluff, Illinois.

That is the first thing I noticed. The state of the engine bay does not resemble that of a 2500 mile car.

The eBay ad also says: "All major service was performed 900 miles ago." without mentioning WHEN it was performed. Count on having to do another major right after purchase. I am not familiar with Testarossas but would not be surprised if they require engine-out service.

Having said that, it is nice that the car comes with all its luggage.

I am also suspect of the miles based on engine bay as well as the painted front and side squirts. It would seem to me that if someone were to keep such low miles on the car as a "collector" car , they would not want to alter any of its orginality. Furthermore spending additional money on non-oem wheels to drive it so few miles- just a few opinions, they may not hold any truth other than the engine bay observation- however a nice car none-the-less.

This looks like a real beauty. I also noticed the engine area being less than show quality. Something else that is suspicious is the driver seat being hidden with the manual case, but this may be nothing. A ppi from a qualified ferrari dealer should be able to sort out the mileage integrity. If this TR does sort out, it could be a rare find.

Looks like a nice car, but my engine bay looks nicer than that and I have 50,000 miles on my TR and I drive mine in the rain!

Yes the engine bay is dirty. I looked closely at things like plated fasteners and stuff and they all look good. It almost looks like the car had maybe a ton of dust from sitting around and they just didn't clean it up. But all the nuts are still zinc plated, as are the fuel lines, and the top washers of the motor mounts look very good - normally these look pretty crappy after a short time. So I'm not sure about the miles on this car. I do think it's got low miles - maybe not as low as advertised however. I do like the silver - it looks so classy.

There was an 86 silver TR on ebay just days ago with black and red interior and I thought it was a terrific color combination. I've only seen one silver TR in person, down at the Kruse auction in Auburn, Indiana. It looked nice and sold for $70k if I recall. Red is nice...but TRs look great in many other colors too....like grigio metallic (mine :)

It's kind of interesting that Carfax only reports one record for this car and that was a title issue in 2004. Nothing else. No mileage. It probably was in storage from 91-2004. Then serviced in 2004 by someone other than a Ferrari dealer. With no records it would be easy to do a rollback, but I don't think it would add much value here.

No sale. I have worked on hundreds of them and that is not the engine compartment or drivers seat of a 2500 mile car.

Never cared for silver on them either.

Those manuals are for a TR512 not a Testarossa.

TR manual is one volume and is blue.
Testarossa was the working name of the TR512 and was kept on the manuals.
They even say 91 on them because the TR512 was supposed to be intro'ed in 91 but was delayed.

Did they move the ground disconnect switch under the front bonnet above the battery area in 1991?

I'm not too familiar with TR's but seem to remember that TR's have timing chains instead of belts. If so, is the renewal miles/years interval the same for timing chains as they are for timing belts?

How much for engine out service? Wouldn't you roughly deduct that cost from the market value in order to determine a fair purchase price for this car?

They have belts. The OLD TR's have chains.

Chains do need adjusting and the occational replacement, but not nearly as often as the belts do.
