I own a Maserati Khamsin (see the Khamsin thread) and am somewhat amused by the values of some of the exotic market my Khamsin for one and as I have recently found the TR.
I have a good friend who is a Ferrari front engine GT die hard and finds the TR exceedingly ugly, I don't share his view and find the TR a hell of a lot of car for the money.
Is there a rational view as to why the TR's are the value they are? after all its a V12 that makes all the right noises is stunning to look at.

Nobody has any idea of why the TR is so completely worthless. The TR is the last mid engine 12 cylinder from Ferrari. People always say it's because there are over 7,000 trs. Some say because of the Major Service- most of the Ferraris and especially the 12 clyinders all have this too. I think the TR is the best bang for the buck

The primary reason that the TR has a low value is that Ferrari manufactured too many and therfore the snob factor leans to the negative side of the scale. The low value has nothing to do with the actual quality of the car. When the TR debuted it was the best standard production car yet built by Ferrari. They are marvelous.Everything about the car-from technical enhancement to manufacturing quality was a major improvement over the previous flagship car(the Boxer). The only explaination can be the sheer number of cars built.....that and the aesthetics of the car. It's a departure from the old-school Pininfarina look, which from the dawn of time had been refined but conservative. The TR was kind of a damn-the -torpedos wind tunnel inspired shape. Some would say "over the top" look which does not appeal to the traditional Ferrari buyer. The car made a serious statement when new--just not for everybody.

I own an example of both and I can say for sure that the TR is by far a better "automobile" in every way.My personal, emotional opinion is that the Boxer is more traditional while the TR beaks away from that tradition. What do you like...old school or modern? Also, again my personal opinion, the Boxer is just more exciting and there's no getting around that for me.The TR is so refined,so near perfect and flawless that it becomes almost boring(if that's possible). When I want to ride with complete confidence in total comfort I jump in the TR,when I need an adrenaline fix it's the Boxer(of course when I return I'll have a back ache and be all sweaty....)

+ a million. IMHO, the TR is a steal at the current prices for such a quality exotic, there are none better at these prices. I cannot imagine the TR getting much lower in price. Remember, many fcars lowered in value and then went back up and beyond the original sticker price. I do not foresee that happening anytime soon, but markets go up and down and the question is only when, not if.

BTW - if TR's get lower in price, I will be in the market for a daily driver!

"The primary reason that the TR has a low value is that Ferrari manufactured too many and therfore the snob factor leans to the negative side of the scale"

They made 430 Khamsin's so rarity isnt a factor complexity is with the Khamsin. Citroen hydraulics scare people shame it makes the car very easy to drive.

Non traditional with Ferrari could be an issue.

Trends in the market in general, people like easy to live with cars.

The ISO Griffo is a good example.

    Astin Martin DB4,5,6 aren't.

If some one come up with a desirability matrix it would like scribble page with lines all over the place joining boxes.

Elegance in style is a positive factor, so ART Deco cars dont fit.
Badge name is a positive factor but not always the case
2 seats is a definite plus combined with a rag top.
    Race history.
"Play station" is emerging a driving tool of desirability

I will watch with some interest to see what the TR that is for Auction by Shannon at the Sydney Motor show fetches.

Think it may not sell, myself.

Would like the TR more if its bum wasn't so large. Needs to stop eating Maccas and spend some time at the gym.

'80s styling, not widely loved (no pun intended), plus costly servicing relative to the price.

Also, Ferrari's flagship cars had shifted to V8s by the time the TR was launched (288 GTO, F40).

But yes, TRs are a lot of Ferrari for the money.

Autotrader is showing today 360's # for sale 239, f355's # for sale 84, TR's #for sale 16. So it's not that there are more TR made but that there are to many 360's for sale. I just got my new ride (TR) and after my first run in it and the WoW factor I got from everyone who saw it I would have payed double for it.....

There was a time that they couldn't give away 246 Dino and now they are pushing 200k, not that there is a direct correlation, it's all relative. I figure in another 20 years the TR might share the same stature.

I get very positive reactions from the general public to the "dated" styling of the TR, even the little kids.

I think the negative reactions are from the people that don't understand, relate to, or care for the design of the era ("The Eighties"), and that's fine with me as long as you don't try to put the design of the TR up against Ferraris built in the late 90's and early 2000's, it's apples to oranges and an exercise in futility. It would be the same as trying to compare a 330 GTC to a TR. A waste of time.
The TR is an EIGHTIES design.

There are many newer Ferraris that just don't do it for me either, and probably never will, specifically the California, the back end looks like anything BUT a Ferrari..
