Whilst pounding the pavement in my TR, the engine seemed to miss at 6K RPM indicated. I hooked up an external tach and tried again, and found that my TR's tach was reading low. 6K indicated was actually 6900-ish RPM. I thought the TR didn't have a rev limiter. Does anyone know for sure?

Will pull past 7000 if your're not careful. Dyno says max power and torque (on mine) is reached at 6100, so its the stupidity of the owner wasting the extra revs.

    Regards-
    Steve

I don't think the TR has a rev limiter. Last week my gas and clutch pedal stuck to the floor for a moment before returning and it was during a hard shift from 2 to 3. I more than redlined it before the clutch finally engaged. I topped off the brake fluid reservoir and the problem hasn't returned yet.

I've never come across any, even remote, reference to an "electronic" rev-limiting function in the TR documentation that I've been exposed too (but one can argue that all Otto-cycle engines have "mechanical" rev limiters ;)).

No rev limiter.....sounds like you may have a failing crank sensor.

Check the connectors for the sensors and all your engine connectors/grounds.

    best regards, Jim

Worked for the Factory.....NO rev limiter on pre-motronic systems. unless someone added it.

Take a TR, place in neutral and mash pedal to floor - see what happens

    Best regards, Jim

True - the 512TR has the Motronic engine management system that has built in a rev limiter.

    Best regards, jim

Very interesting comments, as far as I can recall T/R's had a rev limiter controlled by the Ignition ECU and 512T/R's had a limiter controlled by the Motronic ECU.

Don't know if US spec cars were different.

I remember a person takeing a picture and posting it this web sight of his bosses TR show 10,000rpm on the tach. We all told him he was nuts or what ever. I have never heard or felt a TR rev limiter kick in at all.

My '86 ROW TR had a rev limiter. Built in the ECU to the best of my knowledge.

My 86 TR does not have a rev limiter. I know, I've been there and beyond.
