Search engine was no friend of mine on this one.
Does someone have a step-by-step procedure for the replacement of the starter on an early TR?
Or is it quite straightfoward for a pencil pusher like me?
    TIA to all.

First disconnect the battery or turn the battery switch to off.
    Remove the air filter housing
Remove the 3 bolts (13mm bolts I think) fixing the motor to the clutch bell housing.
twist and pull the motor to remove.
    Job done - drink a beer :D

Let's go François you can do it! Just one more thing. When you loosen the nuts for the wires make sure to hold the wire to avoid it from rotating with the nut. If it rotates the stud is rotating too and you can break something. Also if you're not sure make a drawing of the wires to put them back correctly. Or a cell phone pic.

    Hi François,

Just curious, by your own admission I get the impression you have some limited experience with auto repair? If true, how did you determine you need a new starter and not another problem keeping the starter from working?

I agree that you should have no problem changing the starter if you follow the advice here. Good luck and keep us posted.

    Tom,
I tried everything everybody here suggested and I still had the #%{* starter act up when hot. I had the solenoid changed, I had the wires upgraded around and changed the fuse panel (this last one myself, yea!). So I bought a new starter from Ferraristarter.com but the flange was not ok. I returned it and they found out that they needed to put a flange equivalent to the one on a 308 starter. I then ordered a modified starter and now it's in my hands...

So thanks for all the cheering..I'll try doing it in the next few weeks as my agenda filled up in the last days. And I will report back...Hopefully with a beer in my hand! :D

I'm here for you if you need any help. I've done the starter removal when changing the solonoid.
