Did a search, but didnt come up with a definitive answer.

I noticed a small leak coming from the front lower portion of the right valve cover while doing some engine detailing today. Its a small leak, but the Airline Pilot in me is going nuts.

    So.....My thought process is:

    A) If its a simple process to pull the valve covers, knock it out and the CDO* is suppressed.
    B) Live with it until the next major (two years) IE big job that would be far easier with the engine out.

If its a simple process of removing the 28(?) acorn bolts, cleaning, new gaskets and white sealant.....Ill take that route. Otherwise.....I might just watch it until the next major.

*CDO is OCD in the proper alphabetical order.

is the leakage from the gasket or the cam seal ring?
only the gasket you may change without big problem, but the cam seal ring is not possible with engine inside because you have to put the timing belt away.
but if it is leaking only a little from the gasket I would clean it right and put some silicone on it until next major

Thanks guys. My car is also about 3000 miles from the last major so if its a cam seal, I'll be cranky.

Ill do some more investigating but it's good to know the valve cover gaskets are an afternoon job. Probably try the silicone trick until the gaskets get in.

I had a leak on one side, but discovered the valve cover nuts were not even close to the torque spec (dont recall the number now)

Torqued them and all was fixed. Just my experience.

Solved. It was the drain port. The two bolts holding it on were loose.

Now that I have that out of the way....I would like to check the torque settings. What are they for the valve covers. Or more importantly where are they listed in the WSM? I cant find them.

Thanks Tim.....the online downloaded Manuals (ferraridatabase.com etc) stop at page B49 then start again at C1.

I found it in the 512 manual and you are correct on the 8.8 NAM.
