An acquaintance of mine (friend of a friend) has an (I think) '88 TR with TRXs. Are there any wheel options that would allow the use of different tires? Perhaps 512TR wheels?

TRX tires indicates the car is an early TR (up to model year 88.5) that has the bolt-on wheels. There aren't any lug bolts or lug nuts, just one big bolt in the center of the wheel that keeps things together. So any 5-lug wheel is out of the question. There are a few aftermarket wheels available out there but you WILL PAY BIG BUCKS. The least expensive aftermarket alternative are Excelzior or Compomotive wheels for early TRs at a cost of around $2,400 or so. Speedline or HRE are up in the clouds price-wise. I personally like the clean look of the stock Ferrari early TR wheels. They were made in both sizes....metric like the ones your friend has....and they were made in the "normal" 16 inch diameters. I would look on ebay for a set of early TR wheels in the 16" diameter...they pop up on there from time to time. There have been lots of threads concerning this very topic....maybe search the archives if you have the time.

I recently retired my center spline metric wheels and TRX tires to the storage shed and replaced them with original center spline 16 inch wheels an new Khumo Ecsta tires. Everything looks stock but the ride and handling are greatly improved. The car feels like it has power steering now.

    Hi.........

Anyone know about wheels from http://www.heinbrand.com in Germany ??

Catalog lists both TR and Boxer wheels in aluminum and magnesium. Unfortunately there are no 16- or 17-inch wheels for Boxers, although perhaps we could convince the company to make them, with a large order.
