I have recently purchased a 1973 246GT (#05898) that was sold to me as being brought into the US new in 1973, and a continuous history, three owner car.

I have done some research on the history and managed to find the 'first' US owner who says that the car was bought by him in Florence, Italy in August 1983 (not 1973) from Vincenzo Corsano, and imported immediately into the States. Amazingly, he still has the paperwork to prove this. Apparently when he bought the car it had multiple previous owners in Italy, plus a change of color from the original red to black. I am waiting to see copies of the papers to see if I can find an Italian registration number, but this is probably unlikely.

I would like to get top the bottom of this and all I have managed to establish so far is that the car was delivered new in Italy in March 1973.

Any further information would be welcome

    Simon

PS - I am in touch with Matthias from the Dino Registry who is updating the history record as we learn more information

    Hi Simon,

Glad you got the paperwork on 5898. Also glad to connect with you and with the Dino again. It has brought back some wonderful memories.

Thank you, Adams. It was really super to talk with you, to learn more about 05898 and to receive some of the car's history. You are a real gentleman.

Thanks Tony. Unfortunately I now know the Dino Register has incorrect information for the period 1973-1983. I have been in touch with Matthias and we are working on correct version of the car's history.

So far we know it was sold new in Italy in March 1973 and bought in Florence in August 1983 by Adams Hudson (AHudson on Fchat) from Vincenzo Corsano. Adams immediately shipped to the car to the US.

Yes, I was walking to class in Florence one day and saw this incredible black 246 Dino on the side of the road next to a parking garage with "Occasione!" written on the windshield.

I stopped, tried not to drool, and began negotiations. (I had traded about 30 cars in college, never a 'Ferrari' even though at this time the Dinos status was like the 914 to the 911s. Sorry. That's the way it was in 1983.)

The test drive did it. Vincenzo (owner) was the cousin of the Parking Garage owner, and a technician of sorts. Through an interpreter, I understood they greatly disagreed about how much the cousin should be paid for the brokering.

At one point, I had the interpreter tell them, "This is not my argument. If it continues, this is not my car." They stopped.

I wish I knew more about the car from new. Best wishes on your quest. You make me want to do more digging on my Boxer!
