Was down last weekend for the Phillip Island Classic, might head down as a spectator, just love the track. Will definately be attending the PCV trackday the following day at Sandown though.

2nd best, I love Eastern Creek. IMO for a good lap time PI requires bigger balls, EC more skill.

We need 30 to pay for the track, and nearly 40 to break-even for our club.

    They are welcome by invitation.
It is better/safer if they have had some track experience.
We need the numbers, so please forward him/her the Supp Regs.

I drove my 308 down from from Sydney last week and submitted my entry for the track day seeming nothing broke on the way down! I'm really looking fwd to the day and meeting some other F-chat guys. I'll be in the blue 308gtb. I'm a bit inexperienced with track days and have never been around the Island, so if any of you can take me around to show me the PI ropes I'd really appreciate it. Cheers, Tim

    Welcome Tim.
There will be experianced drivers there on the day that can show you the way round. They normally look after new people as a separate group.
You will love the track...2nd best in Australia after Bathurst.
It has some very fast corners and is a very flowing track, but do take care, as the speeds are high and it is not a good place to have an 'off'.
Weather is also forecast to be perfect too...mid 20's.
    Regards,
    Andrew

I had a great time, Sandown still sucks though. My memory of my track based driving skills and reality were far apart though.........
As to the car, no body roll, very good turn in with no understeer, great chassis balance with no real vices apart from weighing too much and brakes that aren't designed with track usage in mind. Ideally, the rear suspension needs to be firmer still, for a track like Sandown.
The brakes need re-bleeding, pedal slightly spongy now.
I found the car was fine for 5 or so "hot" laps before pulling in, or a few cool down laps, otherwise the tyres start melting, literally.
Alan took me for some quick laps on my third session, to give me a frame of reference. That was a real wake up call! On the session after that I was significantly faster, but still way off the pace in the whole section coming into the turn at the end of the back straight.
Can't wait for the Island on Sunday now.

I have three people coming, including myself, if I can get either Chris or Doug to confirm what is going on.
I can't raise Chris and Doug is sick at home. My wife, myself and my friend do not have current CAMS licenses, I need confirmation they will be available on the day, also I still don't know whether my entries have even been received. One of the guys in a WRX yesterday said he is usually invited, sorry can't remember his name, but he was going to go down anyway and try and enter on the day. I am sure there are going to be quite a few last minute entries over and beyond this.

    Stephen,
I have just spoken to Chris.
He is now contactable by email.
He has NOT got your entry form yet.
CAMS level 2 licences WILL be available on the day for $85 each.
They are provisional and last for 30 days, until CAMS contact you and extend them to 12 months, subject to their approval.
PM me if unable to make contact Chris by email.
We now have 30 entries with your 3 still to come.
    Regards,
    Andrew

Excellent, so it's all good and we're all friends so far.

I have a few calls to make and I think I can get a few potential "on the day" guys.

I've had a nightmare week trying to get my 5 cars ready, but it is all done and they will all be there.

Then I'm going to have a day off..... oh, but it's a holiday on Monday anyway!

Staying on the theme of PI on Sunday, I made an interesting discovery today, my "engineering" of the variable length intake was back to front. During previous testing I had wired the actuator, but later replumbed the vaccum hose. Seems I got it backwards, becuase the car was down 40kW at the rear wheels, with power falling off comletely after 6000rpm. I made this discovery after deciding to dyno the car today after deciding something was wrong.
Can't wait to get back again with full power and R compound tyres!

Your lap times are neither good nor bad nor important.

What was good, was that you enjoyed yourself safely without damage or disruption to anyone..... that;s what club days are about.

Lap times are for private testing if you want to judge your ultimate speed.
