I was wondering if it is possible to bring a Formula type car to a regular track day (In Europe)? I've seen some cheapo Van Diemens advertised and it makes more sense then to bring your daily driver to get canned. If not are there events where you CAN use it?

    Thanks

Don't know if the rules would permit it but it would be extremely dangerous to have a F2000 car on the same track with large, heavy, slow road cars. I remember a private test session a few years back where a formula car spun off the track and slid under a road car that had been left sitting in a run off area -- the driver was killed. Also, a F2000 car on slicks can be quite quick. You should have some instruction and, of course, all the proper safety equipment - triple layer nomex, Hans, helmet suitable for open cockpit car, etc.

I am doing an introduction course this summer with a view to a full course plus racing license.

When I was Superkarting one Saturday practice session, as there weren't many of us out on track, the officials decided to let the other open-wheelers go out too.

So I found myself up against Formula 3, Formula 2, Formula Ford and Formula Vee.

I easily beat the Formula Vees and Formula Fords, but couldn't match the F2 and F3.

It was quite an experience going down the straight and having a Formula 3 or a Formula 2 go blasting by at 230km/h and hearing the wail of the engine up close at full throttle. The thing that really struck me sitting in the kart was how low the F2 and F3 looked. It didn't seem like the driver was sitting much higher than I was!

At the end of the straight I made sure to give him some extra braking room for the hairpin, just in case. ;)

Needless to say, best practice session ever! :)

Niko, if you're interested in the F2000, then look into a Formula Mazda. Not the newer generation, but the original ones. They're as quick or quicker and seem to be more reliable. A couple extra bucks up front will save you time and $ down the road.

Also, Niko, if you buy any kind of used, "cheapo," formula car, make sure you have it gone through by a qualified race prep shop to check for stress fractures, etc. You don't want a critical part breaking at the wrong time.

I think van Diemen also makes their chassis no? Id save up for one, but only if it is possible to use it every week-end. It's no use sitting in the garage and I have no time to participate in a racing series. Just wanted a track day toy (otherwise will just buy another bike.)

All the tracks I know of have practice days, usually held on Saturdays. I see no reason why you couldn't run the FF.
