Yes, it was the first time I've ever been held up like that. I had to withdraw from the final race, after I found a crack in the left rear upper control arm. I have spares but will now crack test all 4 corners again. Don't want to think about the consequences if it had let go in turn 1 Lots of withdrawals and DNF's meant that a relatively slow car won, proves the adage "to finish first, first you have to finish"
indeed. Happily I have 3 sets of control arms in perfect condition and I'll crack test the one that goes on. This is the corner that took most of the impact when I spun into the wall at EC back in 2015. I had a new lower arm made but the upper crack tested OK at the time. In hindsight, I should have swapped out the upper then.
there is no chassis or "service life". The control arms bolt onto the gearbox, they're designed to be sacrificial.
Had a fantastic morning at Queensland Raceway today. Saw this amazing XY in the pits. These photographs do not do justice to this magnificent motor vehicle. Small block Ford V8 to 427 cubic inches. 610 horsepower. 6 speed manual gearbox. 4 wheel disc brakes. Electric airconditioning. Airconditioning compressor motor in front guard. Runs for 20 minutes with engine off. Dash vents which I've only seen on a handful of XW or XYs. Custom decals including on brake calipers. Queensland road registered with SH4KER number plates. Deep rumbling powerful sound. Stunning. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I find it hard to believe that a normal 12v battery would run a car air conditioner for 20 minutes and still have capacity to start an engine like that.
Maybe it's a big battery. And a small a/c. They used to say about 3bhp drain for an a/c, but could be BS. I wonder what a modern a/c drains? Gezim? @Gizzi
This one's electric.... But the old ones would have to be more than 3hp,surely! Especially at high revs
