I always found the March 701 to be a curious beast - not a very good car although Stewart did win a F1 race in it and I think Amon won a ROC (Race of Champions at Brands Hatch?) - because if you look at the side pods, they resemble inverted aerofoils much like a ground effect car and predated the Lotus 78 by 7 years but without the skirts. I guess my long winded point is that the difference between a great car and a poor one is small indeed - March almost discovered Ground Effect but didn’t. Life is like that - the difference between failure and success is pretty small indeed.
13 races in 1970 and Stewart put the March on pole 4 times . I always laugh when its suggested the the Brabham BT31 Tasman car was going to race Formula one in 69/70 Too funny an F3 size car racing the F1 monsters of the day ..
Stewart, Amon and Andretti - that’s an elite driver line up. It should have been far more successful given the pedigree of the talent behind it. No matter - it’s a awesome car (and a historically significant one at that) to have at an event. Shame I’m stuck in Adelaide. I would’ve loved to got up close to the BMW M1. That M88 engine is very very very special indeed.

23rd to 18th in race 1. Managed to avoid a 3 car pile up in turn 2 on lap 2, had to hit the grass and lost a couple of positions. Then 3 laps of the safety car followed by 1 racing lap, 5 overtakes, lots of fun. Spotted in the carpark, a lovely AC Bristol. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
