Hey Tristan, It was Fuggin Filthy!! I drove straight to the Car wash at 8pm at night after the GP to wash all the tree sap off!!
LOL. When I saw all the Porsches lined up I honestly thought it was temporary parking and was expecting them to be moved to a different spot. However, four days later they were still there!!!
Not sure what it is mate, definitly didn't over rev it but in an effort to try and get more corner speed into Siberia I did pop the right side onto the ripple strip, perhaps that vibration did something??? Won't speculate at this time. Still had a good day, I just hope driving it home didn't do more damage. In hindsight I should probably have got it towed, but I did monitor engine and oil temperatures and they were normal. I dropped it off at work and it was just collected to go off to Phil's to see what's wrong. Everything is fixable and I'm sure it'll be ready for the next track day at Sandown, that's only 10 minutes down the road for me so nice and close. Thanks for your support and texts during the day. onto the ripple strip, thats a good way of turning a rear engine car around, that is a NO NO. Bit like left foot braking a rear engine car through a corner.
Not another broken down Ferrari! I can just imagine what people are saying now as they drive past your car on the back of the truck.
As always a great read, thanks for sharing. Hey Darren, I hope all is well in beautiful Adelaide. You should join another car club that has track days. I'm a member of the HSV club and do their track days. As mentioned above I had a good time at PI. You'd have a ball. I look forward to seeing you on the track at PI when the National Rally comes to Melbourne. EDIT:- Don't forget your fire extinguisher.
I don't care what people think Paps, but poor Brett comes to mind, I drive my cars and this is just part of it. I was without the car for some years and I'm going to use it as much as I can, that's what I bought it for, to drive and enjoy.
Of course my friend. You only live once!! I hope you drive the wheels off it and enjoy your 308 as much as I enjoy my 348. And you didnt answer my question from the other day, is that your lap timer or does the track "lend" them out on track days?
goodonya mate, I'm sure most here would have left it as a garage queen after all the time and money spent on her if ya not gonna drive 'em, why have 'em ??!!
Sorry Paps, It's my lap timer, I bought it along with the harness from Demon Tweaks in the UK at half the price of buying it here. I did post that some time ago, but, just for you here's a pic 'cause we all know you like pics. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm happy to keep it standard to see what I can get out of it, I'll have just as much fun. To be honest I found it quite easy to drive at the weekend. The only problem I had was I couldn't get comfortable, my helmet was touching the roof. I couldn't find the spot I had at Mallala. God knows how Scott managed to drive his F50 the time he took me out. I couldn't have done that, he deserves a medal. I promised myself I wouldn't go down the same route as I did with the HSV which became almost undriveable. When I can afford it 'll buy a purpose built track car. I've got 2 boys to educate now and that takes precedence over my racing aspirations at this time. When are you going to put the Jag on the track to see what you can get out of that.
Have you thought about removing the seat rail and making a custom bracket to bolt the seat to the floor, using the exisiting bolt holes in the seat and the floor of course.
I've got no interest in destroying the body work on my car,I know what times it would do,plus if i was to track it i would fit thicker torsion bars and front sway bar, that will put to much pressure on the sub frame.happy to keep it as a good handling road car.Plus I've got no interest in hanging around a race track all day for a few laps, prefer long distance drives like the runs we do.
You're right Brett, I have that on my to do list, but I was wondering why we didn't have Ferrari track days in Adelaide? I look forward to it, but will hopefully get a run on PI sometime this year and won't have to wait until Vic's turn for the National Rally Lol....will do
Both. They're actually quite hard to deal with. ATM it's looking like Winton, which is a really fun track. Sandown is being checked out too. early days though....still a million changes between now and then. I remember in 1989 we had two track days. One at Calder and one at PI. Those were the good old days! (I won both..but it helps having the fastest car)
I know I will get to PI at some point so I guess if its one of the other tracks that would be good anyway.....the more different ones to have a go at the better.....having only one track (at the moment) in SA is unfortunate, I like Malalla but some variety would be nice
Make sure you let me know when you're going to be in town. Will organise a night for a few of us to get together, plus I'd like to come down and have a look at you going around PI.
