Well I've just completed my 2nd week of ownership of my '89 348.
I've covered just over 4000 miles in 2 weeks.
I've just returned from 2 days of track time at Le Circuit, Tremblant, Quebec, Canada. Fantastic track, good weather, lots of fun. www.lecircuit.com if your interested.
This car is fun! Good solid acceleration throughout the power band. Very strong in 3rd driving from 30mph through 100mph in one strong pull. Very solid stance on the road. No roll, no lean, just flat and smooth.
My favorite corner (actually 3 corners rolled together) is off the front straightaway.
You enter the corner at about 100mph into an uphill righthand turn maintaining neutral speed. Continue to turn as you crest the hill, down the hill into another right hand sweep at the bottom. Again neutral speed (100mph) no brakes. It's like riding a rollercoaster. Exhillarating!
I did have a brush with the famous loose rear-end of the early 348's. I entered a downhill (turn 7) right hand sweep too fast and too much inside of the line. About half way down my rear end broke loose bigtime. There was no saving this slide. We ended up having done 540 degree spin in the grass. Covered in dirt but otherwise unharmed. A little embarrassing being the first to spin but I did find the limits of the car (and perhaps the driver). My punishment will be to clean the interior of all the dirt that I was covered with.
What a nice car to drive.
Only a couple of cars could match me around the course (2 Mitsubishi Evolutions to be specific, these cars are fricken fast!!!). One of the Evo's got my spin on an in car camera. I'm hoping for a copy of the tape so I can replay my mistake over and over again.
Ate a few Porches just to get even with the Evo's.
    This car rocks!

Wow, 4k in two weeks, you must be sleeping in the car too. That has to be some kind of record. Glad you were able to save the spin and had no real damage. Keep on truckin Evan!

If you want a really good set up for the track this has what has worked for me:

1- Set of Challenge wheels with slightly wider tires...You'll love it so much you'll hunt for a second set and put slicks on them

2- Go with bigger Brembo brakes F40 fronts and F50 rears. Brembo has the specs. You will outbrake everyone!!

    Have fun

You've read my mind. I was considering running the stock rim/wheel combo for street but definitely going to 18" rims with an R compound tire for track.

Having said this, should I still widen the rear track with spacers or would the rim/tire combo suffice?
