I am having an existential crisis: I am on my second 458, and I have loved the car. However, the more I look at the aventador and read about it, the more intrigued I am and am starting to consider trading my 458 in towards one. There are a few available that I have found at a small premium. The itch is becoming intense.

    What are your thoughts?

My driving is mostly on backcountry roads in northwestern CT. I find one of the great things about the 458 to be that you don't have to drive it super fast to get a lot of thrills from it.

Talk me off the ledge and save me some money ..

I like the Aventador. It's the best looking Lambo since the Countach by far.

My one big question is -- is it as drive-able and live-able as the 458? I guess you'd have to drive one to find out. Otherwise, go for it.

The only caveat I can see it that Lambo's generally go through a quicker depreciation curve. It's hard to tell if this car will do the same. It is pretty awesome.

I think you need to drive the LMBO before backing off the ledge...it might, or might not be all you want it to be. Either way, you'll know for certain.

Agree. Very much agree on all points. Aventador is stunning, a sledgehammer. With the scissors doors, it is very theatrical. I find the 458 beautiful in a simplistic manner but the Aventador offers a different flavor that's striking as well. The same question has been lurking on my mind indeed. Would I trade my 458 for one considering that it is my DD now? As a DD, the 458 is way usable. Aventador? I am unsure. Balance win should go to 458 but the itch is there for me too.

Depreciation curve wise, this is a big concern to me as well and I am afraid I will have to agree. Give it 24 months, perhaps you can have one 35-40% off especially when they put a new box in (which I suspect they will, as they are putting it first in the Audi R8 facelift on V8 and V10 to test and then I suspect onto next gen gallardo and Aventador in 36 months). Current one despite a claim of it being fast is not as practical from a user's POV as it is single clutched (arguably, merits go to weight savings) but it is hard for me not to see the R8 dual clutch box moving over to the Aventador. So with a new box, the depreciation curve will accelerate further? Perhaps others can shed some lights.

I am thinking for a while. Just that the Aventador will cost 800K USD and while it is manageable, it is hardly logical money to me on a personal basis. For this much? What am I buying is the question. Is the Lambo experience worth 800K, it's a rather personal question.

Re: Aside and off track for 5, I had a fun afternoon in a TESLA. My first time. Car is fantastic. It's fun and it's a go cart. It is very different (eerily so with no sound at all). It's plenty rapid from stand still and the car is nimble and very very fast. It feels faster from standstill than my 458. Car is just a fun car. Craftsmanship wise, a tad kit and toy but no doubt, it is fast.

Anyway, good luck , Superquant, for now, I m sticking to my 458. Tesla, fun for a day or two. Just wondering if one day eerily all of us will be discussing our e cars. How long did it take for us to migrate from film to digicams? Less than a mere 10 years... wondering if this is happening already. So far, I think this will change the way we think... how soon is the question.

If your heart wants one and you can manage it, I would say why not? It will definitely attract a lot of attention in a good way. It's also different from 458, it's a V12 and it has a very very nice lineage, the real coutach, diablo route. It is as legendary as any Ferrari I'd say despite no F1 relevancy. Best is to own both!

If I'm not mistaken you moved to a more subtle color for your "458 2.0"
The Avent seems a total about face from that. I didn't find it comfortable or suitably high tech in it's interior either. IMO it's all too angular up close, but looks incredible from a distance. Each side as you know has like 7 vents not including the framing of the engine bonnet and exhaust. I think one in front is just for show. I have not driven one yet.
I like my cars small and agile. Not 4000 lb unparkables. On narrow back roads, big cars are confined and not go cart fun.

These pics make my eyes water, but what's with the weight being 500# over the marketing number? Options?

I got my LP700 deposit back and went with the 458. Same problem though, what will be my move in 2012 or 13? As soon as you get one, the LP760 will be announced.

It's a good problem to have! If I were you I'd wait for a dual clutch, direct inj V12 or maybe the next model or interation of McLaren.

    Happy new year

Something 80 inches wide and around 4,000 pounds on the road doesn't sound to sporty; especially on back country roads. That is a lot of weight for even an almost 700hp motor to push around. AWD won't give you that nice steering feel that the 458 provides either and is probably also less forgiving when pushed. Innovative engineering for the Adventador no question and aggressive visuals but it would be a trip into the unknown...
Finally it's the first year of a brand new Lamborghini for which production of necessity has started off very slowly.
    I would stick with Titanium.

You are correct, I went with silver 458 to be more subtle. This is exactly why its an identity crisis for me! I simply cannot stop looking at the aventador, it is so aggressive and 'supercar'. The car is heavy for sure. I guess I am just taken by the looks of it more than anything else ..

yes, the grigio estoque. real nice. that would be more in line with staying in my 'low profile' style.

This is the reason that all supercars are different, to appeal to a specific niche within a subset (wealthier).

Not my cup of tea, as it is too angular for my tastes. But I respect the design for what it is.

Still can be a dd and better bang for your buck. The aventador is a beautiful exotic but the GTO will hold it's value far better IMHO.

My opinion, after an extended visit with an orange Aventador at our local dealer, is think twice. I was personally underwhelmed with the car aesthetically, too similar to the Murci IMO. Sound of the car is good, but no better than older Lambo's. Car costs a ton new right now, for sure will depreciate like crazy. Overall, does not move the game on versus older Lambo's either stylistically or thrills wise, though it may drive better in most ways. Besides, you already have a carrera GT - after that it's all child's play! Best.

The Lambo costs more and depreciates faster... love it or hate it looks.

Unless you just have to have 700 hp (I know it's tempting)...I'd pass.

I was debating it but honestly after surveying the second hand scene I am bearish on the GTO. The big premium from earlier this summer is already faded and for there being so few in the US there seem to be a decent number trading hands. I would wait and see what is shown at the Geneva show before deciding in that direction.

That has been my experience. I am on my second Lambo and my third ferrari.

The Ferrari seems to hold its appeal much better. This may change because in my opinion the Lambos are becoming better sport cars and the Ferrari less so. I think Ferrari has decided to change direction concerning car design.

    Good luck

Since you are already into your second 458, why not try the Aventador? If you are not concern about the depreciation, go for it. It's one of the hottest cars out there. Cars are like women, there is always a nicer one and you should always go for it while you can.:D I am selling my 458 for a McLaren.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I was feeling exactly same way.

I just bought my 458 a few months ago, and before i did, i was realy confused on the choice btw aventador and 458. I hadn't seen the aventador at that time, so i ended up with the 458 (and i have to say that i really love it). Last month i had a chance to see the aventador and spend some time with it.
Honestly it is a fanastic car IMO. I have placed an order for one which i expect to get in August. My wife had insisted i would not buy another car for 2 years, after i got the 458, but when she saw the aventador, she was completely sold. I got the green light right away to get the aventador.
I disagree that the aventador will depreciate faster than the 458. I have some friends who also had very bad experiences with F-cars/dealers. 2 have traded for the aventador. As a matter of fact one of my friends wanted to sell his 458 back to the dealer after 4 months of ownership, the dealer refused to take the car even at 66k loss. What i did not understand is that the dealer has been telling everyone there was still a long waiting list. My partner in london also sold his 458 for the Aventador, after a month of ownership and lost 40k (pounds).
The point is, we do not know how any of these production supercars will depreciate. I also believe the aventador is the start of a completely new era for Lambo. I do not think the car will depreciate anymore than the 458. I also very much doubt lambo will change the gearbox for the aventador anytime soon (it is still great gearbox, i love the kick. It is a super sports car, not a rolls royce) .
It is a fantastic car, and it is in very high demand as well. Volume is still way less than the 458. You will not regret it. I say go for it. That being said, I still love my 458.

guys pls pardon any grammatical errors, I had to hurry.

    Happy new year!!!

It's sporty alright. Don't forget about the carbon fiber chassis and push rod suspension on the Aventador. This car has faster turn-in,much less body roll and 150 more HP than a 458. Shift from 2nd to 3rd at 8000 RPM's and after you glance into the review mirror, you'll quietly murmur something vulgar to yourself. And I'll put mine on the scale in about a week or so. I'll provide full weight with fluids and fuel.
