Has been discussed before I am sure. This is my scenario............ have a gorgeous black 09Scud with Italy flag and red/black interior. Has 11k miles. When picking up at service there was a brand new 2015 silverstone 458, GM said the guy who ordered it is backing out and I can have it. I have 30k in equity with my car and my lease payment would only be $150 more per month rolling in the equity. Sticker on the 458 is 270k and I lease my cars on the business.

I would probably keep the car 12 to 18 months and put about 3k miles on it. Would you do the trade? And do you think I will be able to trade it in for around 270k? Has no nav or upgraded sound system. Has CF driver and led steering, electric seats. parking sensor, the nicer wheels and a few other things.

Reason I want to trade is that the Scud is not used very often. The 458 would only get a tad more use in that it is more comfortable and can take wife out on date nights or do a weekend getaway up to Newport Beach with it. Scud is to harsh for those things.

Also am considering a R8 V10 manual spyder, 991 TTS coupe, or MP4.

    Head is spinning

For the use you describe, the 458 will be perfect. But I am very skeptical about your getting 270K back in 12-18 months. I would figure ~ 50K less than that. Sorry.

Even though it will be a 2015 model, you think it will drop that much. You are talking 220k for a 2015, I only see 2011 and 2010 with around 10k miles selling for 220k.
Not saying you are wrong, but why do you think that much of a drop.

Right, but you have to figure the drop between retail (what you are seeing) and wholesale (trade) values. So a 2015 that MSRPs at 270K might sell in 1 to 1 1/2 years say for 250K retail or even slightly more. But that would not be the trade value, which would be as much as 15% less.

If you are in the market early on for a hot highly sought after model, you can recover your MSRP in a year. But assuming this is an Italia, we are well past that stage. Even the Spiders will probably be dropping in a year.

R8 Spyder would be my vote for comfort, looks and performance. Most women I've driven with prefer riding in the R8 over the 458 for trips and just love being seen in public with it.

Hopefully will get a chance to test drive both of these this weekend. You guys have left me just as confused with each car getting half the votes.
    Thanks

Get the 458, the sound it makes is just mind blowing and you will use it more than the scud because it's comfy and if you don't want it to be a noisy you can just cruise around and it will drive like a Mercedes .

Go with the 458. My wife complains about bumpy ride etc, when we are out in my 2012 Porsche Turbo. But when out in the 458 which is a rougher, louder ride......no complaints.

    Keep the Scud.
Certainly it will be the better financial bet and you will miss the raw drive - assuming that is why you bought it in the first place.

If you don't wantto lose too much money buy a used MP4. A used 458 is good too, but comparing a 458 to a R8 V10 is not a true comparison to me. Best all rounder with you not wanting to lose money is a used R8 v10 with trade in in 18 months. Used MP4 is good too, but not 458, 458 replacement due very soon you will lose money.

I would dump the Scud and get the new 2015 Italia. It will be two years before most people get their hands on the new replacement with the typical initial demand for a newer version Ferrari. The euro market gets new models at least six months ahead of North America.
Getting a new Ferrari from your dealer now; especially in these circumstances should help your chances when the replacement model shows up to...

Took the Scud out three times yesterday and drove the hell out of it. 2 hours total of driving it. One of the trips was to test drive a R8. It was a 2014 coupe V10 with S-tronic, the only other models they had were V8.
I went with the idea of ruling it out, so I could focus on the 458 and a little on the MP4 (doubtful).
I was really surprised by how much I loved the R8. It really didn't feel like I was sacrificing in the thrill and rawness of the drive. It still felt exotic, but gave so much more. After getting out of it and back in the Scud, I can't say I would miss the Scud at that moment. So will go and test the 458 tomorrow and see.
Right now the R8 seems as it would get more usability to me, the hold up is that so far they are not coming close to matching trade in value for my Scud. Porsche will give me 177k and Ferrari will give me 176k. Beverly Hills Audi has a R8V10 spider, manual but they are offering me 130k for trade so far. Freakin idiots.

R8 V10 with the S-tronic is a phenomenal ride, not surprised you liked it.

Wait until you don't have to lease/finance it. And then go with the next gen 458 turbo.

I could buy it now. But I don't do that, as I like the biz tax write off with lease, don't want to tie up my money in a car when it isn't the best financial option. I also don't keep my cars for very long so if I buy it than I lose that 9% in taxes right off the bat.

Go 458, performance and comfort. It will go down some but so what. The point of having money is to do what you want. Like you I can't see a 2015 458 being 220,000 thousand in two years.

You write off a leased Ferrari...as a business expense?
Love to know more about that.
