For those of you who own a 458, is it worth it to trade up to the 488? I am interested in your feedback as I am thinking about it. Is it a big enough change to make the jump?

I was considering the Huracan but I decided not to after hearing from some of you.

    Thanks.

You have a beautiful 458. What will a 488 do for you?

On paper 488 is very good and I'm sure it will be visually great in person as well but if I decided to change, I would prefer to wait until there are independent road tests of the new turbo engine.

I think we all want the newest and the latest. I am curious about the new engine and the added HP. I bought my 458 used so I would want a new one. Nothing special.

Has it ever been worth it? What do you expect to be so different in real usage? 99% of usage will be identical.

Is it that simple? I mean, take the Cali vs. the Cali T. A lot of things have gotten better, it's not only the power. It's an altogether better ride and a better driver. At least that's what I think after the hours I've spent with each car. Who's to say that it is not the same for the 488? Power is noly part of the picture. If it handles better, and at the same time is easier to drive fast, is more comfortable, has less wind noise etc. upgrading has its merits. At the endof the day, the right thing will of course be to drive each, and see for yourself.

Eh, I think it's simpler than it sounds. Really just comes down to dollars and how long he's had the 458. Whether it's worth it or not depends on how much more worth the 458 has left in it. IMO a 458 is by no means ready to be tossed out. Fantastic car still and the view inside isn't much different.

He'll need to throw at least $100K on top of the 458 and he'll be owning a car that is at the very beginning of depreciation. He can continue to drive the 458 for quite a while without losing a ton more on it I think, assuming it's not a 2014 or something super new.

A 488 on the other hand will be $30K up in smoke in sales tax on day 1 + early adopter depreciation, assuming he actually keeps it and uses it for a decent period of time.

IMO it's not worth it unless you've really gotten a lot of use and miles out of your 458. Sales tax alone on a quick flip is brutal in California.

No, you'll just end up with a car that's uglier than the one you currently have with even more performance that you can't tap into.

458 is a prettier car in the details.

So I'd pass and get the iPhone 8... :)

Yes, definitely worth trading up to a 488. Everything, power, electronics, aero, design, etc is just better maybe except just the sound.

Jon if you are used to have fun at low speeds, you should wait and test drive 488 for yourself too see if turbo is for you.

If you are driving at high speeds, 488 will be huge upgrade for you.

You are reading me wrong :) Turbo-charged engine in 488 GTB wont be so entertaining at low speeds like NA in 458 Italia.

So, if you are used to have fun around legal road limits 458 is amazing, if you are used to drive at insanely high speed (for example on Autobahn above 300 km/h) 488 is real beast for that task!

For sake of argument let us say money is no object. Consequently, you can buy whatever you want. Now what? Are you buying to make me or you happy?

By way of example, I just sold my Porsche Turbo S, awaiting delivery of a Corvette Z06. My wife's knee jerk reaction (before laughing at herself) was "you are getting rid of a Porsche for a Corvette"? Yep!! Maybe my neighbors will wonder what it will be doing next to our other cars, i.e. Bentley, 458, Maserati, etc., but , you know, I don't even know the names of most of my neighbors. Best

Ask yourself... Do you like sound? If yes stay 458. If you like speed and dont care about sound then 488. Design is personal opinion. Your 458 is beautiful. This would be my perfect spec for 488 btw :p

LOL, that's much cheaper. Just don't marry her first.

The dealer offered me a spot in line. Delivery 2 years from now.I am not high enough on the food chain even after buying a bunch of cars to get an early one. I guess we will see. For now I am not putting up a deposit. I really like my 458.

I figure in another year my car wholesale is 170K. New car say 325 or so. 150K round trip plus 10K in tax.

My '15 GT3 was about 150K with tax.

Some days I wish I had kept my F430.

I don't think the upgrade is worth it to me but we will see how I feel in a couple of years.

LOL, Money is always an object. My experience is that even people who have an endless supply of it care what they spend it on.

Cars at this level, including Corvettes, are bought on emotion. I could give a rat's butt what the neighbors think.

You've heard the 488? Brilliant! Tell us what it sounds like, then. Come on, don't hold back, you tease.

Listen to the Cali T. 488 is teased in the video that came out a couple days ago. Sound very similar. If they get a sound anywhere similar to the 458 (tone and volume) with the turbo technology then that will be a miracle.

I think they made mistake with teaser video where you can hear exhaust. They should keep it in secret, just in case they improve it for a little bit in meantime.

So, you haven't heard the car, then, just an audio sample. I guess you've forgotten how disappointed everyone was with the sound of the 458 when all they had to go on was an audio sample.
