Is the class retroactive? Can I get negative points if I take it?
now thats some funny **** E. I can just see you getting pulled over after taking the class... "go ahead copper, gimme that 64 in a 55... I'll still be -1 point." BooYa!
Ok, for my fellow ECers.... I stopped by a NJ DMV local office. An officer *and* a DMV employee gave me conflicting answers right in front of each other. Both said go to AAA even though AAA said go to DMV. Gotta love civil servants. In a nutshell, they told me 1) NJ Does in fact keep a record. But the points may not transfer directly (an illegal right turn in NY is not an illegal right turn in NJ, so it may not transfer) 2) The transfer is problematic at best. So points are frequently lost 3) Try this number first....1-609-895-6886 for out of state inquiries. Call with your ticket number and they will be able to look up your NJ record and tell you if you have points. If you do, a NJ Driver ed program (AAA) can erase 2 points every two years. 4) if they refuse to look up your record (identity theft & such), you need to appear at a *regional* DMV with ticket # & Birth certificate/password/green card/imigration papers & they'll check. There's a regional center in my back yard, but they won't release anybody elses info or even confirm points because of identity theft. Seems reasonable. If anybody calls & gets stuck or need forms or anything, shout. I'll hit the DMV (or the new & improved MVC....yeah, right!)
guys, the owner of the school that I deal with was not there today I'll have an answer tomorrow for everyone. Sorry for the delay...
Michael's right. In NY, there's no such thing as using the accident-prevention course to reduce points that may be acquired in the future. The point reduction applies only to points received during the previous 18 months (violation date or conviction date?--I think violation date... because points are obliterated 18 months after the violation), and only to non-speeding violations (so I've been told--read my post above ).
gotz to make dem calls after new yrs when i return from vacation. need to get the points down dats for sho!
here is the deal for the class: $60.00 and you drop 4 points. he sends in the stuff to the DMV If you guys want to venture into the Richmond Hill area (7 minutes from where Buttuuuuuz's plumbing is), I would be glad to meet up with you and introduce you to the school owner and take care of everything. I know a lot of you are busy so another option would be for you guys to mail me a copy of your drivers license and a signature sample, with a check/money order/ (no black amex though ) I completly understand if you guys are not comfortable doing this. so... Another option would be to send all the info etc. to someone you guys know better and are comfortable sending the personal info. I can meet up with that one person and we can go take care this. Let me know what everyone wants to do... You guys keep me entertained with your posts, so I feel like I can finally repay you all.
i was told once (don't remember source) that while nj speeding violations do not go on ny driving records, insurance companies have long since wised up to this 'non-compliant' state loophole and intead collect all state violations tide to your license to more accuratly determine our premiums and their risk. otherwise we coudl all just speed out brains out in nj and never worry about our ny insurance premiums.
i dont mind meeting up in LI one day in january to settle all this shiiite. let's hook up with da boyz in january when every gets back from holiday vacations
just pack your drivers license I prefer the "meet" way so I don't have to be responsible for people's shiiit
Definately, the area isn't bad at all at all. I live by queens college but am in that area quite a bit and never had a problem You guys pick a day, I'll make sure the owner is there that day. He said for you guys to take it easy after the "class". What will the dmv people think if you guys take a class like that and keep getting points He's gonna give the group a copy of the video to watch whenever if you want. I hope I don't sound like I'm selling this guys stuff but... consider the insurance reduction certificate as well. You can save quite a bit on insurance this way. We use to pay about 6k a year, now it's down about 1k because everyone on our insurance got the certificate... I should be avaliable whenever ...
If you guys find the right place an extra $20 will get you out of sitting thru the class and test. AMHIK...
