So this POS trailer is available about 40 miles from my place for at most $850. I'm planning a beach trip and want to tow the 360. Wouldn't mind driving it, but the tradeoff is 500 unnecessary miles and zero cargo space. Want to add a hitch to the Cayenne Turbo and tow it. Never done this before. If I got this thing, I'd cut the tire rack and observation deck (that's what the owner calls it) from the front, give it a quick sanding, kill the rust and shoot it red. Got a tilt bed with a hydraulic piston. Needs the breakaway kit installed which it comes with, and the brakes checked, which I'd try to demand he do before delivery. Can you all LOOK at this picture and tell me if there's any reason why what's left of it when I'm done wouldn't work well for my application? I just don't know what I don't know, if you know what I mean.

Honestly I think it is over priced. You will probably will spend around 2k to put at the level your Ferrari deserve. Is your money but I won't do it to carry my Ferrari.

My advise is that if you like to do this often, then you should get this bad boy; http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=1390

Around here you can buy a NEW trailer(no tilt) for around $2300 and a new enclosed trailer(the way a Ferrari should be hauled) is around $4500(20ft).

The way that trailer tilts it may not work for you anyway. If it just goes up and not up while sliding backwards then it will be too steep. Old trailers can be a pain for long trips, wheel bearings go bad, brakes go bad etc. Its nice to have a new one that you don't really have to worry about. I bought an 06 20ft enclosed trailer in 2007. I took it to Miami from KY a few times. It worked out good. One blow out on the way back for out of three 2k mile trips is pretty good. Plus with an enclosed any extra baggage can be put in the trailer. (we brought back some nice palms once)

Good luck and have a nice trip when you go!

Thanks. I honestly have zero desire to do this often, and I have no place or desire to store an enclosed trailer. My club does, however, have some room for an open trailer next to all the golf course maintenance equipment. I might want to use the thing once a year maybe. I'm prepared to just get a hitch that fits the u-haul car carrier, probably my best bet unless someone shoots holes in that idea. Why do you think it would cost $2k to fix this POS? What am I missing? Cut the metal off the front, throw some paint on it, what am I missing? That's what I'm asking.

Maybe I should park my 360 on it just as it is, old tires and all....yeehaw!!

    Bob,

There are a couple of places local that rent trailers, I would just go that route. There is one off Balls Ford Rd in Manassas between Rt234 business and RT234 bypass.

I'm with the other guys, get the enclosed trailer if you must. At night you have a secure place to park the car no matter where you are visiting.

Well, OK, if your name is Jed Clampett. +1 for renting a U-Haul car transporter once a year.

Needed to do a one time tow for a 911 and looked at U-Haul trailer. Wheel rails weren't wide enough and would need boards to lengthen to make less steep incline to not scrap front and rear.

If needing just once a year, hire a service to do it. If doing more often, get your own enclosed as indicated above.

I don't see how you'd be able to open the door of a 360 on that trailer.

Maybe it's just me... but 500 miles (1000 round trip) is nothing and depending on how much stuff you need to carry, there's decent (for an exotic) storage space up front.

Just seems like a lot of work to save a few miles...

Trailer tires are 100 a pop x 4 is $400. Wheel bearings, brakes, brake controller, lights etc... it all adds up.
360 is very wide so the doors might hit the trailer fenders. Looks homemade too. Buy new sized right for your application, but if its needed just once a yr figure out an alternative.

#1) I don't think it is a POS. It looks like a used trailer, but not a POS.
    #2) Buy new tires
#3) I wouldn't trust that hydra cylinder for one minute. Just use ramps
    #4) Buy new tires
#5) Paint? You're worring about cosmetics and not tires or bearings?
#6) Do you know how to trailer a car? You always haul them out of gear not in gear.
#7) Once a year use vs. $800, plus maintenance and insurance? I'd rent one.

The thing looks pretty junky and you will end up with a bunch of money in it before you know it. Also, it looks like maybe it would be difficult to get a VA state inspection sticker on it. I have hauled my 348 on a small trailer similar to that one, but I couldn't open the doors all the way, had to climb out the window. I would advise getting a new or nearly new car hauler trailer- you should be able to get a nice one for a couple grand, they are set up with no rails in front of the fenders so you can open car doors. I also had to use a couple of 2X12s to load my car as the stock ramps were too steep. No problem loading it with the boards and 4x4s in 2 places for support. Your cayenne may have the power to tow a big trailer, but probably not the suspension or overall vehicle length to tow a long heavy trailer. If you haul much "stuff" a full bed car hauler would be handy too.

Also consider that that looks like a pretty heavy trailer when combined with the 360 you might be pulling more weight than the Cayanne can safely tow.

No idea, but I gave up on even thinking about buying this thing after about post six. You've all made great points. Thanks everyone. I'm just gonna drive the round trip in the 360 with a friend driving the Cayenne up as well.
