I know this subject has been beat to death on this forum. But so many opinions. I'm running Red-line75-90ns, and get a lot of LSD chatter. Ready to switch to Royal purple max gear. any recommendations?

Adding about 4 ounces of quality Limited Slip additive will get the chattering will stop without making the transmission hard to shift.

Redline 75/90 NS with 4 ounces of LSD additive. That's what I have in mine and it shifts great, no chatter.

I'm changing mine (plus engine oil) this Saturday. To reveal my sickness, I'm looking forward to it.

Previously, I went from Agip (by dealer) to Royal Purple (by me) and noticed only minor shift improvement. Still recalcitrant when cold, but super when warm. For this change, I'm putting RP in again.

I've not done any modifier of any sort. Would this be recommended with the RP on my 512TR with 34k miles?

    No, none required with RP.

When I bought my TR I had no idea what oil was in the gearbox nor how old it was. I had no shifting issues even when cold, just the normal "notchiness" inherent to the design. I went with Red-line75-90ns on the oil change. Turns out what I drained was (fairly fresh) Royal Purple. I did not add any friction modifier to the Red-line and have no chattering or any other anomalies. For me I saw no difference between either brand (good or bad) so it was a wash--I'm satisfied with the performance of either.

My only complaint is the 1st > 2nd shift. Anyone using a "slick shift" gate? Noticeable improvement?

    Tim,
I also had an issue with 1st to 2nd shift, Made up some Teflon shifter bushings, works well now. Se my post on here about shifter bushings.

I'll check it out, thanks David. With 40K on my car I'm pretty certain the silent blocks are worn, thought I really don't feel any 'slop' in the movements.

    Tim,

You wont feel the slop, but the precise left to right position is the problem.

TR doesn't have a limited slip?
My boxer does, with basically the same transaxle.

The TR DOES have Limited Slip.
That's why it chatters when running gear oil with no friction modifier (LSD Additive).

Running a gear oil WITH friction modifier included in the formulation causes hard shifting.

That's why the recommendation is to run without it and add only enough LSD Additive to keep the clutches from chattering. Too much and you are back to hard shifting.

Okay, so you need the friction modifier with Motul.
I somehow read the previous post as saying the stuff was good, without the modifier.

Redline with modifier is working fine in my car, so I'll just stick with it.
    Thanks,
    John

I added the 4oz. of LSD additive to my Redline as recommended in the above post, the chatter on turns is gone. Still shifts fine.

    Thanks
