I am assembling the Clutch and transfer case and the center gear has 2 thrust bearings 105143 and 2 roller bearings 105124. When assembled the outer ring of the bearing and the thrust bearing bear on each other. though the thickness of the roller is 1/2 the width of the rollers. I can not believe that this is right. Also I can't believe the thrust bearing is to roll on the aluminum housing. When spun it rumbles and all is new? (Thank you Birdman for the great photos) Also the pressed in bearing rim projects from the surface of the aluminum. I don't want to reassemble with this poor bearing condition.
    1. Is this the way it is supposed to be?
    2. Any end load on the thrust bearing will bear unevenly
    3. Is there a spacer I am missing?

Thanks to all for your help with this. I want to get on the road before the snow flies.

Thrust bearing should not ride on alloy housing. The races for the idler gear support bearings should stand proud of the case and the trust bearings should be riding on those.

Did someone else take it apart?

I took it apart and I did not remove any bearing washer. I had the shop press new bearings in all around and new seals throw out bearing etc. I'll look at the old thrust washers under the microscope and look for indications of wear from the narrow bearing rings. It just doesn't seem right not having a full width of bearing surface. (and I don't want to take it all apart again) but I worked fine before so back in it goes.

Resolved, I looked at the assembly closer, I looked at the parts blowups, I looked at the thrust rollers under the microscope. The rollers have a narrow wear path centered on the roller matching the outer race of the bearing. New bearings tomorrow hopefully back together. Now it is time to wrestle with the clutch linkage reassembly. I have the tutorial but those floppy links and pins. i marked the position of the link that is splined to the throw out but all was cleaned and I will need to experiment with multiple positions until all lines up.
