Well after bending 2 snap on wrenches this morning trying to get my transfer case fill plug off. I tried being a smart a$$ and it worked..."give me a lever long enough and I will break loose my transfer case fill plug."

    Instructions...

    1. place impact grade 7/8 wrench onto 3/8 drive (because 1/2 inch won't fit in alloted space) and place on fill plug.
    2. Insert end of 3/8 breaker bar into 12' steel pipe with a 3/4 diameter.
    3. apply pressure and try not to hit your car when it breaks loose like I almost did :)

That damn plug is a PITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now does someone have a pic of where the other fill plug is...the descriptions I have found are "somewhere between the gearbox and exhaust" I'm going out to look for it now but I like knowing what I'm looking for before I go on a where's waldo hunt like I have been this whole week.

This one? My lower filler plug was also frozen solid. Had to use a propane torch and a breaker bar to get it unstuck!

Yeah that one...I found it...I couldn't see it because it was covered in grease from my cv boot breaking. Thanks for the pic though I'm sure it will help someone else. I'm starting to plan to put together a service manual with pictures and instructions based on a collaberation of the information here and my own experience. I think one is needed for future newbies...I think we've all been through at least one headache that a step by step set of instructions and pictures would help out alot if it was in front of you.

Boy. With all the maintainence these cars have had over the last thirty years, they sure are a breeze to work on. Maybe with all the frozen gearbox fill plugs it was a good thing Enzo made the shift shaft seal leak engine oil into the gearbox. I mean, someone has probably checked thier oil at least a few times over the years maybe eh?

I too have been staring at the plug on my car wondering how much fun its going to be.
