Transmission doughnut GTC4

    I need some information on the rear transmission doughnut on the GTC4.
    Does anyone know what other cars share this item?

    I presume you mean the CV joints.
    These are available from GKN Driveline. I think you will need to give them the dimensions as I think they can't openly supply 'Ferrari' parts. I believe they're also used on some UK Fords amongst other things.

    The part I was asking about connects the propellor shaft centally to the differential. It is rubber moulded around a steel framework & has 8 bolts;4 conenct to the end of the shaft & four bolts connect to the diff.
    A similar arrangement was used on the original Lotus Elan

    I'm puzzled.
    I thought the 365 GTC/4 should have a solid splined coupling between the drive shaft and the diff, all inside the torque tube.

    There's a splined coupling that conects the hard metal pieces together at each end but the "torque donut" absorbs the shocks and is mounted to the front of the diff. Similar in design to (but much larger than) the flexible coupling (Metalastik) found on steering columns.

    I think only the GTC/4 used the part, probably getting kinda scarce.

    Yes and was a crappy design on the Lotus. Does it work any better on the Ferrari?

    isnt that used on a lot of the vintage ferraris with the transmission in the front(ie: trans attached to the motor)

    i think Tom Yang talked of his 330 America using that type of connection right at the trans tunnel....

    also a lot of alfa use a "guibo" like that at both ends of the driveshaft?


    i dunno. im just waiting for the weekend :)

    2na - Thanks for posting the parts book picture.
    I wonder why they used the donut on the GTC4 and not the 365GT 2+2, 365GT4 2+2, 400/412 which have the same torque tube arrangement (though longer). Also no donut on the torque tube/transaxle cars from Daytona through to 575.

    Naiyvel - I guess you've tried Eurospares, although they will be much more expensive than sourcing it yourself, should be cheaper than Ferrari

    Unfortunately the donuts used on single seater driveshafts are usually 6-bolt

    I don't know if it's the right size

    I suppose one reason the transaxle cars didn't use the "Krispy Kreme" was because the driveshaft is always spinning at engine speed. It might be tricky to get that big rubber thing to stay in balance.

    Here's a tip: When you replace the donut the new one comes wrapped in a metal band, DO NOT REMOVE THE BAND until after it's bolted together.

    Queens definitely don't have the donuts. I just checked my parts book.
