I still have this problem that I had about changing the gearbox from 1 to 3 than 5, not allowing me to put 2,4,6, and R... I search a lot for the diagram gearbox of the 458 Italia, but I couldn't find anything!!! They keep saying clutch or relay, Which clutch and which relay???
No, but I need to find out what might be the problem . Where can I download a diagram for inside the gearbox
You might want to contact Getrag who makes the transmission. From what I've been told, Ferrari ships them to Getrag when they need to be repaired. Ferrari only swap them. The model is the 7DCL75.
Does your warning light for the transmission on go? Does this odd gear thing go away after the car cools down? The transmission is divided into 2 sections (Left and right), they are connected. Left has all the odd gears and the right has all the even gears. I believe there is a temperature sensor on the left side and right side of the transmission. There are also 2 bearings, one on each side of the casing. The bearing is oil cooled and circulated. The transmission can get hot so air cooling isn’t 100% effective. They use the bearing oil to cool the transmission by heat transfer through a seal. Apparently 7% of transmissions have this seal failing. The bearing fluid leaks into the transmission. So people suddenly get warning light and then gear on that side of seal failure stops working but if you turn your car off, the transmission gets cool enough that the warning light goes away. It could also be the temperature sensor or the sensor on the return line of the bearing oil. I have a copy of the workshop manual. PM me if you want. It shows you all the maintenance and how to remove the transmission.
This problem is best handled by the dealer. The dealer may be authorized to try and fix the issue. Or else the dealer will swap the box for a refurbished one supplied by getrag. Perhaps the person asking for advice is a mechanic at an independent shop who is willing to fix for a price. Somehow I sense the car is out of warranty and that is why we have these questions about technical repairs. I don't think you should try to open and fix the box unless you have training by getrag. Ferrari doesn't make the box.
I have a workshop, I am a mechanic and it is my car, If it is for a customer I can get a refurbished one, but I am trying to fix mine, I fixed it once and this problem happened again!!
Never mind, I saw the OP was out of country. The Ferrari service dept. at the Wynn hotel in Vegas specializes and has fixes for this exact relay problem.
