Hello fellow F chatters:). I’ve been looking pretty deep into a 458 this last month. I’ve looked at 3 up close and the overall best most maintained one looks like it has a small amount of oil coming from 2 (yes both ) bolts at the bottom of the transmission. I have read on several occasions seals or solenoid failure, but is this a huge concern? I Need to see if the transmission has ever been opened up based on records. I asked the dealer but they didn’t seem too concerned so asking the forum here. Just want to make sure it’s more a lose bolt than a seal or something messed up internally. Curious how the Ferrari warranty doesn’t cover leaks but if you leak out enough DCT fluid pretty sure you will blow the transmission. Thanks guys :)

What colour is the sealant?.. seems like it’s grey then yes it’s been opened up most probably for the speed sensor. I’d check the weep holes for leaks if they are ok then check the gearbox oil and DCT fluid cooler pipes they’ll be on the left side if they are ok then it’s possible that the sealant used when the gearbox was repaired isnt upto spec.

Looking at the photo again that’s a good location for the engine oil if it’s been spilled on the top up perhaps rule out that first

Not engine oil. I figured dealer would have wiped down any leaks so I had them put cover in then drive the car and to their surprise came back and had them take the cover off again. I do t have a diagram of transmission. It’s possible they didn’t put sealant around the bolt hole and oil is just getting around the bolt. Either way I did not purchase the vehicle but I’m always looking out for advice as I continue to look for cars.

Well I can say that the gearbox has been opened since it’s left the factory and most probably the sealant wasn’t applied continuously. I hope nobody gets stuck with this one as the cases will need to be opened and resealed probably.
