I've got gear oil leaking from the support hardware that attaches the transmission mounts to the transmission. It seems the studs that go into the gearbox are allowing oil to escape. Any insight to the solution for this would be much appreciate.

    Thanks,

    Skipp

Are you certain that it is the studs that are leaking? From what I remember the holes on the studs are not passive into the transmission case. If that is the case then your solution is to raise the car, support the engine, drain the gear oil, remove the mounts and studs and re-install sealing the threads with some gear oil RTV. Google 'Permatex gear oil RTV' and you will find exactly the correct product.

    Rob,
Hope you've been well. Thanks for the reply. It sounds weird that the car would be built that way, but it seems to be the case.

I think Rob is correct. I have a hard time believing those are thru taps. If you do a search for engine builds Skipp you can probably find a photo that shows it or someone else here will chime in who knows for certain.

On second inspection I think you guys a right. I think it’s all coming from the gearbox sump cover nuts and blowing backward.

    Thanks for your help.

A very common problem. To correct this of course you need to clean everything as well as possible and you can replace the washers under the nuts for Stat-o-seal washers which should stop the leak. I use these together with some gear oil RTV to make for a perfect seal. You really want to get the gear oil RTV because it is resistant to the special friction modifiers in gear oil that otherwise harms regular RTV.

Here is a link to the washers and YES they are that expensive but they work:

More than likely I can procure those for much less. I have an excellent hardware source.

Skipp - I do not. You would need to know / measure the stud size.

I dont know the cost but that washer could likely be obtained from Amsoil, as well. They are used as part of a bypass filter installation kit, for which they should also sell individual parts as needed.

Disregard. I checked my kit, and they are larger than what you need (M12). My apologies.
