I've done a search on this figuring there were some previous posts out there, but I couldn't find anything that address the frequency of the transmission/gear oil change in a 328. My mechanic says the old annual oil thing, but says gear box oil doesn't get contaminated unless you miss a lot of shifts. I only grind gears 1 thru 4 and really only 3rd gear do I grind badly. Seriously though he suggested every 5 years or so. The previous owner did it every year. Any ideas out there?

    Every year, regardless of miles.

you should not be grinding in any gear.

Good question, and I'm interested in the answer too.

I updated to Redline NS about three summers ago (about 2000 miles/summer) and have been wondering when I should change too.

The most serious and expensive damage I have seen done to those transmissions has been from condensation in the oil.

If you live in a dry climate and use the car for long trips frequently so the oil gets very hot on a regular basis you can leave it a few years.

I have just described about 5% of Ferrari owners.

The 2 who wanted an answer to this question do not live in dry climates and I would tell both to do it annually.

I did mine in my Lotus after 5 years and it looked pretty crappy. I now do it every other year for peace of mind. FWIW, I didn't notice any difference in shifting before or after.

My owners manual says every 12,500 miles - no mention of time but I'd tend to run with what Brian says - he's the man dat knows!

Actually the sooner the better every 3 months if you desire, but its just depends on how often you can afford to spend, just dont go over the manufacture's sugestion.
