    I am a new Ferrari owner. I have just purchased a 99 355 F1 B
I got it for quite a steal (I hope) I paid 70k for it. There is a catch though, it wont shift at all. The seller said the dealer told him it needed a new trans. and quoted him 23k for the fix. I figured I will be under a 100 total. Any opinions? Best place to have it fixed? (I travel extensively in US so location isnt that important.
    Thanks DD

ps. This car has 7133 documented miles. Is this something that has been found to be a normal problem?

    Hey Dan,

Congrats on the new car. One option other than going to the local Ferrari dealer for the fix, is to post your message on the regional board, and ask local owners who they would recommend to do the fix. Good luck. BTW,
if you didn't buy the car yet, get a PPI done at reputable mechanic, and they can give you an estimate there. Cheers!

    Hi Dan,
Where in ohio are you? I'm in columbus, We have MAG, which is the Ferrari Dealership, also, we have NJB which is a GREAT independent ferrari mechanic........i think I'd bring it to the dealership first, and find out EXACTLY what's wrong and do all that stuff, then decide if you want to fix it through them or not..............are you anywhere near Columbus. I know you said you travel extensively, but i'm sure you aren't going to tote the car around with you.....

    Hey Dan

First off, welcome to Ferrari ownership.

Okay now, I'm in the middle of rebuilding my transmission. See this thread for more info on my trany rebuild http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77427. It's out of a 348, but the 355 is very similar to the 348. It will take about day to get the trans out. Then you can either rebuild it or put in a new/used one.

If you like I can tell you how I took mine out. The only real difference, between yours and mine, is yours has support brackets attached to the transmission, mine doesn't. Other than that is pretty much the same process for removal.

You know, now that I think about it. Did they tell you what the car is or isn't doing? Is the F1 system not working, or is the transmission actually busted?

Thanks everyone! I believe I am going to take it to MAG in Columbus to be repaired. To answer the color ? it is red baby! black int., w/ red stitching. and my favorite part is C wheels powdercoated gloss black (Im a black wheel nutcase-I love em)

dan your problem could be electronic or worst case a gearbox rebuild.either way a far cry from $23k.dealerships prefer to replace rather than repair.
