My '72 Dino has a lot of whinning in 1st-3rd. Not so much in 4th and 5th.
I know they are loud but at 30 MPH the tarnny is louder than the engine.
    I'm guessing it's a bearing?
    Could it be the diff?
I am running RedLine 75W90 gear oil.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance-Dan

The Dino trasmission needs specific oil for mid mounted engines.
Due to the fact that the trasmission housing includes the engine oil pan
it heat a lot more heat than a normal trasmission.
The right one is for example: Castrol SAF XJ 75W-140

A perfect time for me to exit since the Dino is sold and a newcomer has taken (most of) my moniker. Goodbye everybody. It has been fun.

    I apoligize, I hadn't seen a Dinodan moniker.
I hope you're not going away mad.
I'm am willing to change it.
As I;m new to the FChat I'm excited to have this resource.
I've had the car under restoration for almost 10 years now and are finally able to start driving it.

DONT put this oil in if you want smooth gearchanges...........I had my box rebuilt with all new syncros and bearings (by Ron at Superformance) ran for the first 500 miles with cheap oil and all was good (usual slight baulking in 2nd gear when cold) replaced after running in period with the Castrol SAF XJ bought from Superformance at their recommendation at no small expense!....It was awful, box baulked in EVERY gear and was so bad i dumped it out and replaced with another type which was suitable ( forget what it is now!!!) and gearbox is now excellent.

Iwould be careful with using a fully synthetic oil, some ferrari guys have had problems with this oil. Any normal hypo 80 oil is good enough. Must be suitable LSD though
