Porsche Bevy: I would like to hear what your experiences are, and what you know, about Transmission Emergency Run problems with the new PDK transmission. Here is my story: I got PDK on my 2010 C4S so that I could do Launch Control. I took a 3 mos vacation with it after I picked it up, driving 17000 miles right away with no problems. Then a couple months after the vacation, I got a "Transmission Emergency Run" message in the dashboard. The car seemed normal. The only difference was, I could not engage the Sport or Sport Plus buttons. My service rep says that is a known issue, having to do with a failsafe mode where the computer (erroneously) detects a problem with the transmission. In the worse case when the detection logic IS accurate, he said, and which has never happened to me, the car is locked into 3rd gear, which is low enough to start in and to get up to speed to get you home (or to the shop). The service rep says he does not know what the underlying issue is other than that the PDK is complicated. My service rep supposes there will be a software patch at some point to address the issue. He says in extreme cases they have to replace the transmission altogether. In my situation, I can simply turn off the car and restart it, and I'm back to normal. If I recall what the service rep at the dealership said, this does not work for the stuck-in-3rd situation. This Transmission Emergency Run is not a major problem for me. It first happened about a year ago and it occurs once every other month or so. What are your experiences with Transmission Emergency Run and what you know about what is causing it?
I cannot comment directly on the issue from first hand experience, except to say that getting 17,000 miles without issue on a newly designed computer controlled and highly sophisticated transmission design before your first glitch is pretty good.
Oh, I concur The only problems in all that time were various squeaks and rattles on the poor non-German roads. However, when I spoke with Transmission Emergency Run with my service rep, he indicated it was a known issue, so I was soliciting confirmations from the group. Since no one has responded I guess it's more rare than was indicated to me.
